By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

So yesterday i was advised to go to Hospital to see a Doctor after having a tempreture, constant feeling of sickness, the sweats, strong pains in my upper abdomen, belching a lot.

He said i had gallstones after a prod of my stomach.

Gave me loads of meds. Yesterday evening i vomited and after that felt better.

Today i woke up at 6am feeling perfectly well and now at just gone 3 i feel like shit again. Does this happen after meals?

There was very little fat in my chicken salad for lunch

What other symptoms do i look out for?

Any help/advice welcome

the trigger can be different for different people....

for some people its red meat.... for others its diary, some people its seeded food......

the best thing they ever did for me was to remove my gallbladder.... 6 years and no issues since....

The pain, does it start at the base of your back and radiate around your ribs?

The vomiting, and other symptoms you describe certainly sound like gallstones.

I had a severe attack that blocked pipes and made me turn Homer Simpson yellow.

I'd certainly get yourself off to emergency GP if it continues.

Agree! 2 years I went back and forth the the Drs. First it was a cyst. Then possible ovarian cancer. Then my contrceptive implant. In the end, i went to A and E. Huge temperature. White blood count almost non existing. Spleen shutting down. Massive infection. My Gall bladder was PACKED and I mean PACKED with stones. In hospital for a week in August. Lost 4 stone by December and had the little/big bugger out. No worries since. My problem foods now are high fat foods. Pastry mainly. Some very oily foods too. But no pain after I eat them. Just bad wind, (Lol) and a depressed feeling. Keep on at ur Dr and have it removed. Dreamcatcher Xx

Do you know what your actual diagnosis is? What was the surgeon's plan? Return for surgery?

I only went to an out of hours GP yesterday.. this is all very new to me.

The GP i saw said that it was likely to be Gallstones.. ive not even had an ultrasound or bloods to confirm.

I just know it bloody hurts

Oh god I truly sympathise with you. It was the worst pain ever. I was advised a low fat diet whilst I waited for surgery.

It just kept coming and going, I know fried onions were a no no.

Hopefully if it is gall stones diagnosed you can get them removed quickly. I just had 1 large one that was blocking the tube and was filling up my gall bladder with rubbish. They have me co codamol and ibuprofen together to help with the pain x

You need to see a surgeon. Does your local hospital have an emergency surgical service?

If you have them removed make sure you avoid fatty food, else you'll have to go around with a loo strapped to your arse!!

Not pleasant x

I would be phoning 111, or whatever the nhs number is, to get advice. Someone i worked with had these same problems and often ended up dialing 999 and being taken in as an emergency. She had her removed eventualy

Good luck x

I second this! Eat bland. It will keep it at bay.....

But really you need your gall bladder removed. I had mine almost 15 yrs ago ( Christ!)

Watch out for jaundice. That's a sign your liver is struggling. Which is what happened to me. Had my GB taken out days later. Good luck OP. The pain is horrendous. Will never forget..x

Well i had my gall bladder removed, fatty food tends to go through you for the first couple of months. Mind you, it's worth it just to be rid of the pain!

Not sure how it is if you just have stones removed, but worth keeping in mind.

this... if it gets to the point of being really really bad don't be afraid to call 999...

the final straw for me was having an attack just as i finished work... and being on a bus to the point where the attack i was having was so bad, i told the bus driver to have an ambulance waiting at the bus station for me...

longest 10 minutes of my life.....

I sympathise with you having just had my gallbladder removed 5 weeks ago. Keep taking the buscopan, I found they worked wonders and avoid as much fatty foods as you can, jacket potato with beans or plain tuna is a nice meal to have. Hope your symptoms ease soon, I found my pain worse when it started to radiate to my right shoulder x

Everyone's symptoms are different. There was no trigger for me. I passed out with the pain a few times and they thought I was having a heart attack!

Finally diagnosed after 3 years after having a scan.

Gallbladder removed and now all is peachy. Get to your docs and get a scan to find out for def

good luck x

Food seemed to be the trigger for me, any food what so ever, but fatty foods being the worse of them, slept in a chair for years as if I laid down, reflux would start. Never had I attended hospital or the docs so often.

Hope you get sorted

Stay away from any spice. No salt plain foods only and go to an emergency GP as it sounds very much like acute gall or intestinal blockage. Try to limit dairy as well.

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

And just to add a bit of variety to the internet advice....before I had mine taken out the attacks had nothing to do with fatty foods, dairy, eggs, spicy food etc. They came when they felt like it.

No referred shoulder pain either but I guessed that the pain was gallstones as I have a strong family history.

Had an ultrasound 2 days after my first visit to the doctor, surgery about a month after that, fighting fit ever since.
