Sub 30 by end of the year? It's a target I have set you!

Yes more than exceptable! Honestly I have not got a bad word to say about park runs. Loads of people walk, you will have a bar code and your time gets emailed to you after the race!
Everyone is friendly and non judgemental and really the only person you are racing is yourself!
With the added bonus of getting fitter, and exercise done for the day before 10 o'clock. |

Always a good workout on the Friday for us
AJ got his time down to 18.03 last year but a job change means a different training regime now. D aims for sub 25min.
Hoping to get back into it at some point. Still love to go running but unfortunately the park run is just the wrong time.
|
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big)
Been doing them for quite a while, but had a b-i-g gap, due to simply preferring a lay-in, if l'd been on a late-shift on the Friday
I ran the first one at Pontefract, now that's at 300+
'Ditto' Nostell Priory, now approaching 150
Pontefract, it's just over '21' PB, & Nostell circa '21:40', but slower now due to knee (& a bit of weight gain)
Nostell PB was on old course, now changed
I totally agree with 'Scouting', they are fully inclusive
We have 16 minuters, through to those who are happy if they can get under 40
There's verbal encouragement to the steadier runners, thumbs-up, 'high-fives' to any smaller kids running
First timers are looked after
I missed it on Saturday, even though l was day-off, but that's because l rode out to watch the Tour de Yorkshire Womens race

Park Run is one of the best free sport events , that anyone can participate in.
Encouraging for all levels, friendly, and a load of courses up and down the UK & overseas, with a uniform start time.
Pure utter genius - and to watch the happiness amongst many, priceless.
Though, of that short fat ginger kid, passes me in the first km again (he was doing 1km intervals - though I didn't know it) like a North Korean rocket, I may endure he hits the low hanging branch on that tree, that everyone dodges......
20.01 last week / 20.14 previous / 20.31 raining and headwind - sooo close. |

When I first started running, I did most of my training on a treadmill, loads of speed work and also had hackney as my local course (zero elevation but a dead turn at half way) and got down to 21.15. No I live out in Hertfordshire and train for longer details I'm doing 23 or 24 minutes on a course where few get under 19 or 20 minutes. I might chase a PB on a faster course once I;m feting within a minute of my PB |

Ooh, this is neat. There is one not too far from here at 9am on a Saturday morning.
4km walk to get to a 5km run followed by a 4km walk home again.
Sounds like I'd actually hit my 10k steps per day target! |

Should get to one of the locals this week, as l'm on lates at the weekend
I've also heard that there's meant to be another two in the pipeline in the South Leeds area!
Having run in XC races at one of the locations, they could (but can't!) make it a toughie
The other park, l know of old, & it could have a couple of fairly long draggy uphills

"Did my first ever yesterday at Wepre Park
Didn't realise you had to register on the Parkrun website first, and print off a barcode to get a time
So I'm down as anonymous
Now I know the course I'm looking to get sub 25 easily
I've heard that's a tougher course than most
Toughest in Wales, 2nd in the UK
It's on my list to do one weekend I'm not far from there!!
It's actually not as bad as you might think
But living here in the Clwydians it's just your average day running
Nice one!! I've done a run event up moel famau 8k in 54 mins I was pretty happy with that since there was snow there as well"
A very popular run
Calling in at the Colomendy for the best pint in the county afterwards |

Equate to what? Parkrun isn't about how much faster you are than other people. It's about your run. |

Light weight |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big)
"I usually do 6k in 30mins. How does that equate?"
5 minutes per kilometre
If you imagine that Bekele holds the 10k world record at 26 minutes....
A "good" effort is to run at Sub 4:00 / km
My own pb for 5k is 22:13; 10k 45:06
I don't think I'll get any faster now, though
However keep up the good work and just enjoy what you do ; that's the essence of Park run |

Plenty of ours would love that kind of time

Need to lose a stone, & also about 4 minutes!!!!

I meant good / bad / average (for an old guy). I'm not really a runner as a hobby, I just do it for the cardio element. Last year I ran a 6 minute mile which I know is nothing special at all but it damn near killed me! |

I think it was a year PB at ParkRun, if only by a few seconds
(still over 3 minutes off PB)
And, (fell/trail) raced on Monday evening too, just off series (for this year) PB
Racing (road) on Saturday too, one l've not done for a few years

Indeed, just cause 14k converts to 8.699 miles. I think miles are eaiser to understand the distance into context then kilometers

Km are SO much easier, and it sounds a lot better to say I've run 14 than 8.
A 5 minute km is better than an 8 minute mile, and you tick them off more quickly |

5km. Which is just over 3 miles. All the courses are measured and any variance is minimal |

"Are these park runs 3 miles or 5000m - or do they vary?"
They are 5k runs but as with most measured routes they can vary slightly depending on the line taken by runners etc. |

In gym I was aiming for a 3km sub 20 mins this morning, managed 2.5km in just over 16 mins which if I carried on at that pace got me under 20 mins for 3km
I am aiming to get back to doing a 5km under 30 mins
BP is about 27.30 for a 5km...but I need to shift some timber first, and get fitness back to get back to those times |

I have a friend who does parkruns, he says there's a well known guy who pushes and elbows past people so he can be 'first' in the race.
The organisers were told and apparently if he's reported again then he's out.
It's only the one guy though.
Everyone I've heard that do the parkruns love them. |

Find your local running shop, most of them organise mid week runs.
I'm looking forward to this weekend and the potential of an Olympian / paralympian being the tail walker, great way to show it is for everyone regardless of if your time is sub 17 mins or sub 70 |

I'd also Google local running clubs.
Most I've found are very welcoming and have different groups to suit all abilities |

Club-run on Tuesday evening
VERY wet indeed!, rain got heavier & heavier
6 miles, & did we know about it!!
Not sure which was worst, the rain, the standing water (ankle deep puddles on some dips in pavement), or the splashes from passing traffic
Shoes are still wet, despite being left in greenhouse
