Sheffield resign Ched Evans

I don't want a repeat of the legal case here since anyone who wants to argue that more can do a forum search and revitalise one of the many past threads on the subject.

So Sheffield United are promoted to the championship next year and have re-signed Ched Evans from Chesterfield who are relegated to league two. They had previously offered him some support by trying to let him train with them when he left prison but then they got cold feet after people like Jessica Ennis-Hill stuck her nose in.

They question is, if you were Ched Evans, would you want to sign for Sheffield United? This is a club that didn't stand up for him when he needed it most, the facts of the casr haven't changed since they left him high and dry. On the other hand business is business and it's the best offer he has.

My opinions on this are too strong to comment.

I think the guy should still be in Jail.

But hey hooooo.

Well the question is about whether you would re-sign if you were Ched Evans so do you have really strong opinions about that?

If I had no other option yes, I would. I would need to earn a living and if that was the only way to do it, I'd sign.

Yes my opinions are strong on that aswell.

Sheffield United HAD to pull out because Sponsors threatened to pull the plug. NOT because they specifically didn't stand up for him, because they did.

But the facts of the case still stand and Ched hired private investigators to dig up as much dirt on the girl and painted her as badly as they could until the case went away.

I don;t think Jessixa Ennis stuck her nose in. More voiced an opinion shared by many others about the club signing someone who was at that time a convicted rapist

If you are going to make comments like that, you pretty much negate the request in your opening paragraph

That's the best paying / highest tier club that are offering. League one Oldham actually made him an offer but withdrew it, perhaps that's no better. I suppose the complicating factor is that chesterfield haven't actually been playing him either.

this...and cases like this are what put women off reporting assaults. the whole thing is shaming and disgusting in a supposedly modern world.

It's critical to the question though. The facts of the case haven't changed, only the jury's decision has. No club had the balls to form their own opinion about the case other than, arguably Chesterfield before the law took it's course. So I'm asking whether, perhaps hypothetically, you as Ched Evans would feel you'd rather play for a lower league team that believed in you when it mattered?

I have to say that I don't care what he does. However I'd rather he earned a living than he didn't.

The thing is does Cheddar Evans have any other options if he wishes to pursue his career at a higher level? It seems as if no other comparable club is showing interest.

Also given the media shit storm at the time I think Sheffield United had no realistic option than to drop him given all the negative publicity and loss of sponsorship they risked.

Football is a business after all.

On that basis

IF I thought Sheffield should have stood by me I would reject them

My opinion however is that they had their hands tied and I would not really know their thoughts and thus take the money

Why does he have to play football? There are a million careers he could choose and why choose on e which will only keep him until his mid thirties, he could move abroad, pick a trade and live a happy life or he could hand himself back in and serve what he should of served as a convicted rapist, the legal system is a joke and not a very funny one

If there was a league one club who had stood by me then i would rather play slightly below my pay grade for that kind of club. But league two would be too much of a drop personally.

The problem is. Even if he is 100% innocent and I mean he did absolutely nothing wrong at all and everything the woman said was fabricated from the ground up. He'll always be seen as a rapist

So if a club is offering to take him on then why shouldn't he go for it
