Carrying on from the saga thread. Although im not 50 im not far from it.
Now in this day and age with everyone living longer, people being far younger and more active. Why are advertisements for "older people" still aimed at 50 year olds. As secret said about the clothes catologues, i seriously cant imagine one person i know of 50 that would be seen dead in any of that stuff. My mother wouldnt and shes 66. You can live in "old peoples" complexes from 50.
I remember my mum always saying that my great grandma was an old lady at 50, they didnt dye their hair and long black dresses ect. To me an "older" person is someone at least over 60 although many 60 year olds are still young.
Maybe at one time "older" people sat with a blanket round them at night drinking cocoa. |

I am 47 next February, and am older than my boss by a month, as well as my one over one boss by 6 years.
I am the oldest person in my team of 8.
When I mentioned this to my one over one boss, who is 41, with 2 kids, and a business (she part owns the company that I work for), she says I may be the oldest in the team, I certainly do not behave as such, and definitely not in outlook either.
Bless her! |

I'm over fifty, my mother in her seventies, yet she is the liveliest person and has me laughing at the things she still gets up to!
She has her own sense of style and would rather get a bolt of material and her sewing machine out and make something individual than wear something from an 'oldies' catalogue.
We don't always see eye to eye but I'd rather have that than the cocoa drinker in the corner. xxx

My OH is 50 and whilst he gives off the persona at work of a staid businessman, he's such a rude naughty man lol. No way do I think he is old.
I am 43 and don't feel any different now than I did in my younger days. All of my friends are the same and in fact all of the over 40s on Fab are lively and seem to have a young outlook on life. |

50 is one of those great milestone in life and not just because it ends in a zero.
Scripture mentions the three score year and ten life expectancy and some people break that down into (roughly) equal thirds. 25 years to learn and grow. 25 years to plant and sow and 25 years to give something back. I know that's not a perfect 70.
50 is also, roughly, the point at which many people are probably doing as well financially as they're ever going to. Maybe their kids are fully fledged and gone. Maybe the mortgage is paid off. All pointing towards them having a bit more disposable.
You can see why marketing folks would target them and try to sell them a 'new lifestyle' even if most aren't ready for Damart quite yet. |

Velcro shoes! I was looking for something to go with the Damart reference and all I could think of was that big slipper thing that oldies put both feet into.
No doubt someone will suggest I've put my foot into it by pointing out the Big Slipper is, in fact, at the forefront of teenage fashion (or some similar notion). |

I am 52 but think I am 32.....
love it all..... embrace it with a passion.
life experience you just can't buy... I love hearing the younger folks post on here full of excitement for what lays ahead in their life..... I wish them all the fun times I have had.. a fewer less of the upsets I may have experienced, but even them... you learn more about you and life.
all in all refreshing xx |

"I am 31 and waiting to experience motherhood and other things... So I hope that when I am 50 that I can guide my kids through life " Having kids was one of the best things I ever did. Did not think I was cut out to be a mum as I loved my career but I have had endless fun with mine (plus a few challenges...) and life would be so much less rich without them. So good luck to you and hope it all pans out |

In some parts of the country you're old enough to have great-grandkids |

Im 54 and happy to be this age. Maturity does have its advantages!!! I dont feel I have to prove anything, I leave that to younger people. Its just as well as most of the people I work with are younger than my kids.
Sex is so much better now than its ever been. It could be just that I found a great partner, and Im sure he is a huge part of that, but my body responds differently now. And Im so happy it does. lol

My take on this is that when you get to 50 you somehow aquire a sence of self worth, you don't give a fook if someone else doesn't like what you've said and done, but not in a disrespectful way if you get my drift?
You mostly feel that you don't have to explain yourself and that the best thing about young people is that they are great to fuck |

I am 50 and still act like a bloody 18 yr old half the time just need to slow down and pace myself a bit more.....
Going to be a grandad shortly might help me there.
Went on holiday an mid May after being made redundant for the second time in the last 12 months and have started training again....lost 2 stone and my waist line has shrunk a couple of inches
Now with no spare cash and needing to buy a new wardrobe as my trousers don't fit anymore........
as stated above though..at 50 you don't really care what othe people think anymore....
I've been there and done most of the things I set out to achieve....now thinking of starting over and doing it all again.......
OK I want to lose my virginity AGAIN offers |
