After a bit of an hangover, started my training for the 10km Blackpool Fun Run with a 15km walk couldn't run as my head was hurting too much.
I have only got 2 weeks to train for it, left it far too late so hopefully start doing a bit more running tomorrow.
I am doing it for a charity that is very close to my heart Brian House Children's hospice. |

Hope it goes well for you! I often run 10k's and half marathons on behalf of the National Autistic Society and it's great fun and an awesome atmosphere! Good luck and keep us posted how it's going ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

I think it converts 6.2 miles. Sure will keep you informed last time I ran in it was over. 20 years ago. ![](/icons/s/confused.gif) |

Couch to 5k (3.1 miles) is 9 weeks and you're doing double the distance! I would advise a run walk strategy include it into your training. It also doesn't sound like a fun run but an actual race, so start from the back the real fast runners will be finishing when you get to mile 2 or 3
Good luck |

It is, but at least you do exercise, you need to find out how far you can run/ walk, in tomorrow's training session, walk to one lamppost then run to the next, walk then try two lampposts etc.. preferably a 3 mile course (I wouldn't normally suggest this but two weeks is not much time), a decent warm up before you go to try and stave off injuries.
When you get back see how long it took you, it'll give you an idea how fit you are to run and how long it will take you to complete the race as well. Don't over do the training either, plan maybe 6 or 7 training days before the race , if it helps I know Marathon runners who have done Run/Walk and completed them quite quickly 4.30 in one case. ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

Thanks for the advice, when I start to train. I usually do the run around the local park. Which is 3.5 km and usually takes about 20 minutes keeping a steady pace. So that's my run tomorrow. Then I have football as well.
Tuesday recovery day then Wednesday I will do once and half or 5km. Thursday will be biking to work and back which is 3 miles each way. Friday may try twice around the park which will be 7 km.
Saturday rest day or a long walk. Sunday I will do another run maybe 5km. And train up to the Thursday and then rest. Hopefully looking for a time under 60 minutes, trying to be realistic. |

"There is nothing fun about running. Nothing. Fact.
"
Science lesson.
biochemical processes and the release of so-called happiness hormones. The most popular ones are endorphins, dopamine and serotonin.
Twenty minutes of light running is enough to increase the dopamine level significantly. In high-intensity sports such as Freeletics however, your brain starts to release dopamine just after a few minutes. This release makes you more alert, more focused and it improves your concentration. And to top it all off, it makes training more fun!
As you seek to attain this state of joy again as soon as possible, you sometimes can hardly wait for your next training session. The more you train, the more dopamine will be released. Dopamine is the main reason why you feel good while exercising. Why you are able to finish your workout even if your body and your mind both want to give up. It pushes you to peak performance und lets you break PBs. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

"There is nothing fun about running. Nothing. Fact.
"
The effect of these happy making hormones is not only restricted to the immediate time during training. In the course of actual physical effort, the brain releases dopamine and serotonin only within certain regions. But if you exercise regularly, the hormone concentration grows continuously in many areas of the brain. A sustainable improvement of concentration and an increase of happiness and satisfaction are then pleasant side effects. |

I have to combat my competitive streak with realism. I will compete again and get better , faster and stronger but very much doubt I will clock sub 40 minutes. Even with lots of training. |

Doing the Manchester 10k at end of month. All I ask is that you pause to think about what you wish to help (helpless people or animals) then go and give 2 weekends of voluntary work. See what is really happening and make a real difference |
