"
Therefore Laura is an idiot.
no bodmas required just simple algebra!"
Well, that's what I said..
My daughter was much more polite with her tutor when he said she had got it wrong (daughters answer was that laura had transposed incorrectly and believed + to be -)
It turn out that her tutor is no brighter than laura..
I just wanted a second opinion to make sure my understanding of simple maths was correct..
.
Next question..
Does anyone know a good maths tutor in East London or Essex as I am now looking for a new one for my daughter!!! |

I can't believe that a maths tutor can not get the answer to the simple equation. Perhaps the tutor is just unable to put it in a way that your daughter can understand.
Ref any good tutors, why not ask around at her school? |

6x +4=10
6x=10-4=6
6x/6=6/6
X=1 |

"1X = 1
?
I hope you applied bodmas?
why bodmas, is the X a multiplication symbol?
It's algebra, x is the unknown or variable..
"
i'm slow as fuck and only just realised what you asked in the OP. thought laura was your daughter....
6x+3=10
6x=12
x=2
the answer is the 3, that is where laura went wrong.
then the 6 x would equal 7 anyway, so x would equal 1 and 1 6th. not sure you need that last bit. |

"The answer is 1
I don't show working out, I don't believe in being penalised for being a smarty pants and knowing how to do it in my head "
i used to be shit hot at mental arithmetic - still not too bad and i used to get slated all the time for not showing working out - even though i got the correct answers - was a constant battle between me and the teachers |

Confused.. even if Laura had used minus instead of plus it still wouldn't get 12 when you move the 4 over.. maybe she divided it by 2, stupid question anyway |

Look around on YouTube there's plenty of maths and algebra to smash through, it's not all bieber and cat videos, also just because someone has the position of tutor don't credit them with anything other than the ability to bullshit an outdated exam, I'm dyslexic so struggle to show working out and do my maths in a backward fashion in my head and I'm a computer programmer (nerd is the word) |

Also, the multiplier symbol is assumed if not present..
Example : a+b means you add 2 values but if written ab it means a times b. The X in the example is an unfortunate coincidence |

6x + 4 = 10
so 6x = 10-4
6x = 6
So x=1 |

If she thinks
6x + 3 = 10
Then how can she think 6x = 12?
Surely it would have to be 3 less than 10? |

"I've a math question what is 0 divided by 0?? Just ask Siri!!... the answer is funny as.. just trying to be light hearted here "
that's quite good actually!
Although Siri is also stupid. It knows what the square root of -1 is, but got the answer to -1 squared wrong hope no-one uses Siri to cheat in maths tests |
