Theres an article in the BBC about people lying about what books they've read. The list of the most popular to lie about is below. Im kind of surprised what is on the list.
James Bond books, Ian Fleming
Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien
The Chronicles of Narnia, CS Lewis
The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown
The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins
Trainspotting, Irvine Welsh
The Wizard of Oz, L Frank Baum
Bridget Jones's Diary, Helen Fielding
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Stieg Larsson
The Godfather, Mario Puzo
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Ken Kesey
Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn
The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini
I'm an avid reader, but have only read a couple of the James Bond books (found them dull). Da Vinci code (to see what the fuss was about) and Lord of the Rings ( loved it, but would never re read it)

If someone is ever shocked that I havent read books that think think I should have read, I just say:
"Yeah I heard that book sucks"...
They are usually _____ speechless after that.  |

Four pillars of the earth and moby dick...they were tough reads but I felt compelled.
Lots like to make reference to literary master pieces...kudos apparently  |

I've only read LOTR and the Narnia books on that list.
Are people lying to say they have read the books, or they haven't, because there are books on that list I wouldn't admit to reading if I had. |

Lord of the Rings - have read the series several times
Chronicles of Narnia - read when I was a child
Da Vinci Code - harmless entertainment
Gone Girl - pretty implausible in my opinion
Tried The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo, lost interest.
You forgot Ulysses - unreadable if you ask me lol |

The Da Vinci code, and the chronicles of Narnia.
Never fancied reading James Bond though I love a good thriller they just seem lightweight. Lots of those the blurb just doesn't grab me so pass them by. |

Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien (confusing as heck and lost interest)
The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown (a holiday poolside read because it came before kindle and only carried a couple of books)
The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins (they're on our kindle so I read everything, was mildly entertaining)
Trainspotting, Irvine Welsh (love Irvine Welsh, this is a classic yarn)
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Stieg Larsson (first one is exciting, the rest of the trilogy...yawn. And don't even get me started on the bastardised 4th book by a Larsson wannabe.) |

I've read the da Vinci code. It was better than the film.
I have seen most of the other film adaptations and not read the books.
It's just getting the time nowadays. |

I'm an English graduate yet am ashamed to admit I have only read three books on that list - just have to face the fact there are millions of books I will never get round to reading. Rather sad |

Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien - many times, including Tolkien's other works too.
The Chronicles of Narnia, CS Lewis - all of them as a child.
The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown - load of crap.
Trainspotting, Irvine Welsh - loved it but took a while to get used to the dialect.
Bridget Jones's Diary, Helen Fielding - meh.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Stieg Larsson - read the trilogy but found it too gruesome to really enjoy.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Ken Kesey - loved it.
Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn - got half way through and gave up, it really isn't my thing.
The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini - amazing book.

I've read Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and enjoyed it as well as the rest of the millennium trilogy.
Tried the narnia books and lotr, didn't care for them.

I have read:
Lord of the Rings
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (full trilogy and have the the extra one when I decide to give it a try)
The Chronicles of Narnia (as an adult)
The Hunger Games (last book was a disappointment, as was the film)
The Da Vinci Code.
I simply read whatever interests me at the time.
