" This is the first series I've watched I have to admit... I'm not really keen on series long stories linking back to previous series. It's okay on something like Walking Dead or GOT where it's one long, ongoing story so people can jump on wherever and pick it up reasonably easily, but if you're doing a show where each series is a self-contained story, you can't suddenly introduce a crucial aspect from a previous series. It's sloppy writing and confusing. | |||

The joy of Line Of Duty is you CAN actually watch each series in isolation as they are effectively stand alone stories within a story, the tie backs to the previous stories and the wider picture are a clever bonus that add to rather than detract from each series. That said the box set of series 1-3 is only £13 on Amazon right now, if you've not seen them I urge you to do so, you'll not regret it | |||

Not ridiculous at all, we don't yet know that the climax will be reliant on previous series, and even if it does there's be enough information about it imparted in this one not to spoil the viewing of late comers to the series. I actually like the way TV drama has moved to credit the viewer with some intelligence rather than laying it all out on a plate for them, as they used to do. | |||

But obviously I went and looked for the earlier series which are all stand alone but with a ongoing theme tying them together.....but could that not be said for most series as in GOT and breaking bad? I've had no courses in film making to which I thank God for as maybe I would be more picky  | |||

The writing's good but it's not THAT good and there were very few WTF moments in The Wire, like the IT breach this week that could have been explained in less than 30 seconds in any reasonable sized organisation, let along the police force! They swipe in and out of the building and the fact he'd been asked for his login details would have rung bells (plus, there's no way they'd handle password changes like that but I'd have let them of with that!). | |||

Some shows have series long arcs. Some have season long arcs. I haven't seen series 1 or 2 of line of duty, but I'm still enjoying it. Last year's was more of an issue with the trial that I had no idea about but I don't agree it's sloppy writing, Especially these days of streaming when you can easily catch up. | |||
