Scam Ad-On by Reputable Websites

So i've just managed to get my mum a staggering refund of £780 just to an ad-on which comes up at the end of shopping on her online catalogue..

This comes up at the end of many online baskets including travel sites and dominoes etc.

Now whats really sneaky is the companies knowingly allow this company (shopper discount) to have this pop up that comes up even with ad blocker, it comes up saying get £10 or £15 back of the shop you've just done.

What is really naughty is that my mum looked at this then decided no not for me but they still got her card details, not only did they get one card they got subsequent card details after her last card was cancelled & only her catalogue had that card info.

Unfortunately my mum missed it as at £10 a month she thought it was possibly cash out at an off licence card machine as the payment date changed every month and some months she clean forgot due to her meds after looking at her statement.

I know many of us these days are more tech savvy or would notice something like this but for older relatives who shop online its worth making them aware.

It took me 5 minutes to find out online they do this to many and after ringing the company they actually breached data protection by allowing me to confirm my mum's 'account' with her surname, road name (not house number) and email but that's a separate issue i'll be taking up with the relevant people.

Sorry it's a bit long on rambly I just want to bring this to the attention of everyone as even i've seen this pop up on many websites!!

You should do some digging as to how they got those new details as there seems to be a massive DPA breach there

Oh trust me I am and as soon as she gets the refund a new card is being ordered and the only payments to her catalogue will be made in cash at the post office using the slip on her statement.

I'm already shouting at her bank for £32 charges for this cpa taking her £6 overdrawn so ive got a bit of a battle but im not going to let these companies take advantage or scam her anymore!
