Indian Premier league

My husband loves watching the cricket. He has been watching the Indian premier league recently and I have noticed that they have cheerleaders at the games. I appreciate that it may be a little presumptuous but it seems that very few of the cheerleaders are local. It seems silly to me to not use the Indian ladies who can be incredibly beautiful. Why are almost all of the cheerleaders white?

I do however love the fact that one of the stadiums is called the wankhede stadium and the commentators say "wank-a-day"

It's likely to be a religious restriction for the ladies of India.

India isn't as progressive as you think it is. Women have a defined role in society.

I guess that is why. But I think it seems silly to put girls up there, who potentially could be seen as successful role models, if it is something that culturally would be unachievable/unacceptable for the young people watching to pursue in the future.

The audience for IPL cricket is now global, so I guess that's why we get all the sideshows.

ha just reading through the posts on this forum.

Back in 2011-12 there was a big match fixing scandal and ever since then, the major contributing factor for having white cheerleaders is solely so they can be restricted in terms of being able to fraternise/party with the cricketers and also one less channel for match fixers to get through to the players.

The other problem being most of these girls are aspiring models/ actress and whilst their indian counterparts wont stand out in the heat dancing for the peanuts that they get paid, foreigners do not have any such issues.

The IPL organisers regularly hold auditions for new cheerleaders but dont pay enough.

I mean the class culture thing is still a part of india but not as much in the bigger metro cities.

But wouldnt blatantly blame as being ( culture/class and a defined role)

INDIAN

Cheerleading is not a frivolous skill, although it is there as a peripheral entertainment source. Indian girls just don't have the skills yet, because like any other skill there is just no practice for them at the moment - there just is no culture on this front, just like say, for any sport that is not played in India.

It is not such a popular activity in many countries, either. The Americans are particularly good at it, because their franchise model sports seasons are well developed as business models, just like their NCAA college sports produces so much high quality sport and spectacle for TV. So, cheerleading has a leading role to play in their programs, and is hence given much importance.

Cheerleaders go through pretty demanding physical and gymnastic training to be in good shape and regularly perform in well coordinated routines. None of this can be done by Indian girls yet. So, there isn't that much choice IF that kind of cheer leading is desired at an IPL event. If it is just about dancing a little and look like you're having fun, then there is plenty of choice.

Nope thats not the reason at all..A lot of girls from eastern european countries land up here in India to try their luck in Bollywood. however not all of them are able to bag roles, so they try their hand with everything including cheerleading and are available at a much lesser cost to the organisers.

I guess having the opportunity to watching white ladies can also be reason. Just like many white people like brown people, most brown people like white people
