"Ah yes, Nestlè, the baby killer company whose CEO thinks water is a privilege. "
I got called into my daughter's school once (she was about 8), as they wanted to know why she'd said that the Pope killed the little babies in Africa and Nestle mopped up the survivors! |

"So, if I'm correct, this machine saves you the "hassle" of spooning the coffee into the pot?
The mind boggles."
Things move on. They are a luxury I agree and scooping the coffee grounds out of the pods so they can be recycled is a pain. However human beings will always want something to make life simpler or we would still be boiling water over an open fire rather than using an electric kettle. |

But if you have a coffee pot, when it's finished all you do is bang the bit that holds the grounds against the side of the compost bin....

So go to a Nespresso shop. Get a free coffee off them observe the simplicity... enjoy the coffee.
Note no grounds to clean.
Note your choice and the next persons choice are simply different pods.
Note pod can be recycled.
Note real milk.
Note no need for mind boggle. |

Ha, it did make you realise that they did actually listen occasionally when you tell them the important stuff |

*sits back with cafetiere made coffee and watches argument unfurl*
It's all about supposed "added value". The manufacturers are doing something for you and that supposedly adds to the value and is why they can charge a criminal price for their products.
I get the "It's why we don't use a pan to boil water" argument, but the savings, whether in time or fuss can't be that great, surely?

I can't drink coffee so only drink tea. You would think that tea drinking would be non confrontational. but the debates on here about when the milk goes in still rage. |

I don't, the caffeine might affect plants negatively and I dont know if composting neutralises it. I take your point though but if like us you buy beans and grind them daily and one drinks decaffeinated a machine is easier when there's limited time.
I was deeply cynical about machines until my friend gave me one. |

It's about the taste.
The latte's are beautiful and at 50p a cup.....it might sound a lot in your own home.
But if you compare it to what people pay for cans of soft drink and alcohol....without giving it a second thought. It's nothing.
Also if you shop around you can get a bargain in the machines. I paid £22 for mine and it came with a £10 voucher off team pods |

"Aeropress. Great coffee and stupidly simple "
Costs around the same price of my machine but it doesn't do the latte as good.
But overall consumables will be cheaper |

Yes it is expensive for what it is, essentially a very reliable cafetière, but it's simple, portable, easy to clean, no packaging and lets you use any brand of ground coffee. I usually like my coffee strong anyway, though do like a cappuccino every now and then |

That's the big point to a Yorkshireman...cost of coffee lol.
So it's a bean to cup eventually as I take your point about these being compact.....but the taste is better from a high pressure machine.
Just need to get the machine a a bargain price now |

This. I prefer to grind my own beans, use a stove top pot & put the grounds into the recycling bin.
Plus, I haven't a huge coffee machine taking up counter space. |
