it cn make them more sensitive, for some it can fix an inverted nipple issue amd make them look more aroused, but for some it can desensitise them.
you will never know until you have them done.
i had mine done years ago under orders  and i love them.
Think also it might be different for men as they tend to go behind the nipple into the pec muscle due to men having smaller nipples |

It can improve sensitivity in the area for *some* people, but that's not the same as desire is it? |

I uses to hate my nipples being touched, until that is, I had a nipple pierced, it seems to change the whole sensation and now I love the pierced nipple played with.
I wouldn't say it changed my sex life though. It just gave me an extra sensation I would not have had before.
Ohh and ots a good ice breaker in the right places.... |
