Interested, but think it may be sensationalist scare-mongering.

You're most likely to be murdered by close friends or family.

And serial killers have been getting along fine without the Internet for years.

E.g Dennis Neilsen, Fred & Rose West, Peter Sutcliffe.

Always remember to follow safety rules, tell someone about where you are going and who you are meeting. Then ask them to call for help, if you don't speak to them by a certain time.

"A friend of my family was killed by a man he met online. He killed others too. "

One of my best mates was killed by meningitis- probably contracted from a member of the general public he was in contact with at work.

Another of my closest friends was killed by a member of the general public pulling out in front of his motorike on his way home from work.

Based on that, i'm more concerned about the dangers of work and the great unwashed than i am of the internet

Exactly!

When I mentioned to a friend I met off the internet she was shocked saying all kinds of creeps were trawling the internet and meeting someone you don't know is dangerous.

She then went on to tell me about her weekend. She'd gone to a birthday meal for a work colleague. She git talking to a bloke who was also on his own. When the meal had finished he suggested they go somewhere for a drink.

She said her dad lived nearby, she'd park on his drive he could pick her up from there and gave him the address. She said goodbye to her hosts and left the guy saying his goodbyes and drove off.

As far as anyone was concerned she'd gone home. Later this bloke picked her up and drove to his house where they had sex.

When I pointed out what she had done was far dangerous she couldn't see it.

Four hours after meeting she was naked on some blokes bed and no one knew where she was.
