So who has got some home and garden improvements planned for the long bank holiday weekend?

I've got some taps to replace, a hedge to trim, and would really love to build a picnic bench, but I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to attempt something so big!

Just had 3 years of hell and 'tradesmen'. Quotes, no problem. IF they turned up, was a bonus. Then you have to put up with them drooling over you, sending texts....'want me to come early and bring you breakfast in bed ?'.

Longest 3 years of my life. Good luck

I have already started...in my little back yard..

I've repainted a garden bench and table, cleared out loads of crap and tidied and pruned my pots up...

so I can relax over easter and do nothing

The big job is to get the stump out. It now wobbles a little when I wallop it with a 10lb sledge hammer so that is progress.

If the weather prevents outdoor pursuits I think I'll attempt to plumb the new shower mixer in and install the mermaidboards.

In all likelihood I'll achieve nothing and just be put on childminder duties while VB works on her PhD.

There are lots of YouTube videos on how to burn a stump out, make fire do all the hard work

I have considered this. This stump is about 18" in diameter though and at least 2' tall. I think I'd be there quite a while waiting for the fire to do the business.

Cheers for all the stump advice everyone!

Given the proximity to the gas main I think I'll avoid setting it on fire and given I've got it a wobblin' I don't think hiring the grinder is worth the hassle.

Plus I quite enjoy digging. Makes me feel ruggedly manly.

Not this weekend but I have been....banging on wood to make raised vegetable beds, getting hot dirty and sweaty digging over ground for new flower beds, painting the shed and fence panels and getting burnt in the process (whilst being plugged in may add...was a lot of fun )

Sown vegetable seeds to put in my green house and had a good bounce up and down on the children's trampoline... whilst they weren't looking

Get a chain round it and attach to the neighbors car or Thermite is your friend, that gas main could speed it up a bit

I have a shared garden that I never go in.

If I had my own garden I'm pretty sure I'd become obsessed with it looking cute with little pots and stuff.

As it is, I have a houseful of vintage tat that I spend time rearranging and pretending that I dust it more often than I actually do.

oooh loads doing here! fenced off half the garden to get the lawn back from the dogs and that's coming on nicely now, took down the old aviary that was becoming an eyesore, mulched all my borders with bark chippings so they look nice and uniform, planted up about 40-50 planters with various flowers shrubs vegetables and herbs, i had to put in new supporting beams in my second shed as this is to become my workshop and now there's a secure roof on that we gutted the shed (mancave) into the second shed and now my first shed is a lovely summerhouse, not too crowded now, nice sofa in here, cozy rug, telly, stereo, good internet thanks to a booster and my herbs planted right under the window and from the sofa i can quietly watch the birds at the feeder outside the window (this arrangement may mean my herbs will have SOME bird poo content) the ferret hutches needed replacing so we built a spanking four foot two bedroom triple stacked hutch for them and they look rather smart now

i still need to build some racking and storage in the second shed and a workbench but i can whizz that up quick and i need to run some power out there too, wire a couple of sockets and a florescent light in as i'm just using an extension for now.

i need to dig out the grass behind the conservatory and stick drainage in as it's a bit of a wet spot and then i may gravel that area, grass isn't happy there it seems but it just gives me more space for planters! =) i have to take out the old conservatory floor too as it's damp (because of the wet behind it) and i'm just gonna concrete that, can't be fussed replacing the wood and floorboards, concreting is a bit more final and easy enough to do. i need to open up a new gate in the fence to and make a gate to fit it, i have the posts the wood and the tools so happy days yeah, plenty to still get my teeth into

Yes. My daughter took him to a local playbarn whilst myself and a neighbour put it together. It one of those two storey ones. Only took three hours. Put a Easter egg inside and a card from the Easter bunny. So he thinks the local rabbits built it.

"It is done. The stump lies naked and beaten on the ground. Roots bent and twisted, sap leaking, soil scattered.

Victory."

In the space of two weeks I've done....

Oh..deep breath... painted a shed, a side wooden fencing panel, a fence at the bottom of the garden (the width of the garden)

Made raised vegetable beds using pallets, made boarder edging and painted for front and back gaeden boarders. Filled vegetable beds with soil.

Dug over said boarders... put in plants , wood chippings, sown vegetable seeds , plants seeds ...now in the green house maturing beautifully... kindly given some vegetable plants from my mother... whilst knew there was such a thing called a ' squashkin'

Made a pea/sunflower teepee for the children... upcycled an old withered wicker hanging basket into a butterfly feeder.

Planted carrot, onions,French beans , spring onions, corgettes, butternut squash, pumpkin and squashkins into vegetable beds now covered with cloth... a little nippy here just now...

Bought two new hanging baskets filled with soil planted and hung front and back gardens.

Next thing is to make a bug hotel using the left over pallet wood and then go perusing for brick..stone and anything I can find to put in and make it homely.

Cup of tea anyone

"I made it through two of the large tap-roots today. By pick, spade, sledgehammer and axe that stump is coming out!

wanna borrow a chainsaw?

Haha, that would be too easy. Plus, I've been banned from tools like that since I almost cleaved my head in twain with a stihl saw."

making it easier is kinda the point but point taken...and how the hell?!!

"The stump mocks me.

I've filled a tonne bag with excavated soil so far an the thing is still showing no sign of coming out.

It will be out before this weekend is through though. I have a cunning plan.

As cunning as a bag of weasels?

A plan so cunning you could brush your teeth with it

As cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University!"
