tried looking to see if it has been talked about
i think everyone must have seen the video by now of the poor chap being "deseated" off the united airlines flight..... between that at the kids wearing leggings fiasco the PR people at united must be wandering on a ledge by now.....
so anyone else had bad flight experiences?
have you ever been "bumped" off a flight?
...or converserly have you ever been upgraded?

Worst airline experience was during the iceland vilcanic ash problem. Flight with emirates was ram packed but to their credit they were very courteous and i did see a couple who didnt get a place being promised a first class seat on the next.
Seeing the coverage of what happened to the chap i know never to use UA for any travel  |

all sorts ... from a check-in attendant deliberately vandalising my passport... to a flag carrying airline removing a couple of guys from club class when they were very vocal about wanting us ejected because of our drealocks .... they got binned because our record label spent shit loads more money with the airline than the two business guys did .... they did manage to mislay my 15 grand les paul guitar for 6 weeks on that flight though which was a bummer |

I have travelled loads and I've have lots of bad experiences and even some good ones 
My absolute worst experience, though, was with British Airways when Marc and I moved to the UK. We were flying with our dogs as cargo and the guy who was supposed to check them in said the crates were too small for them, even though we had everything checked and double checked before the flight. He said we wouldn't be able to bring them with us (which was fucking shocking considering we were on the way to moving our entire lives here  ). After paying shitloads of money we were able to get them on the flight.
I then fought with BA for about 2 months afterwards and they reimbursed us the extra costs incurred (about $2,000) plus they gave us a voucher for £400 as an apology, and said they were retraining the staff who we had problems with.  |

Yes after missing the ships departure from Martinique, the port agent put me on a plane to catch the ship in St Thomas.
We landed in Guadeloupe and took off again no problem but after landing in St Martin two huge guys told me I must leave the aircraft. I protested that I had a ship to catch and tried to stand my ground.
Then the Captain came out of the cockpit and told me the plane would not be allowed to land in Puerto Rico with me aboard as I wasn't carrying a passport (It was on the ship).
I had to spend 3 days in St Martin in a beach side hotel.
Life was hard being a castaway. |

Airline/Captain refusing to fly due to heavy snow, It didn't stop 6 other airlines flying out, After trying to get on one of the other flights I was quoted over a grand, It cost me half that for my whole trip including hotel, But I cant blame the captain, A extra 2 days in New York or fly/sit on a plane for 7 hours in "bad" weather,
I also had a very bad experience with Delta a few years later at a cost of over 800 pound but its to long to go into,
If it wasn't for the staff member being about 6ft 5 I would of kicked him all over the airport

I've flown with British Airways twice. Both times the stewardesses were dreadful. The last time I flew with them, they were so bad I swore I'd never fly with them again. |

Ive been both upgraded and bumped, although on one occasion of being bumped I did actually manage to make the flight.
I have been sat in my seat when a stewardress requested to see my boarding pass as two passengers had been allocated the same seat( we were both stand by). Luckily I was in the seat as the flight was full.
Worst experiences have been with EasyJet, they keep paying me to travel with them |

A few years ago I booked a flight to Cuba. I turned up at the check in desk to find no such flight existed and never had  24hrs later they finally found me a flight from a different airport to a different country ! |

I was in the States when Eyjafjallajökull went up! It was chaos trying to get a flight home, every man for himself!
Worst experience I've had was on a flight to Boston with really bad turbulence - the guy next to me was a nervous flyer and was literally a nervous wreck the entire flight

Loads of upgrades over the years. It's a perk of my job....
Most memorable one was ending up in the "bar" on Virgin Atlantic with a well know TV weather girl giving me a neck massage!! 
Worst experience was taking the 800 dollars and an over night in Chicago to give up my seat and take the next flight to JFK, my flight to JFK the next day was then cancelled due to weather and I missed my connection to London... I finally got home via Chicago (again!!!) and Amsterdam 2 days later |

we spent an extra 7 days in puerto santiago at the end of a job on account of that .... it was all expenses paid and we had a hire car so we did allright out of it really |

I can only imagine that someone booked a flight from another airport with the same name as the one you were flying from but in another country! Booking systems can't book flights that don't exist.

When we flew to Berlin last year, our flight out was delayed as they were deporting two immigrants back to Germany. It took them about 40 minutes to get them up the stairs and on the plane, they were obviously very distressed and made a lot of noise getting on the plane. Lots of people stood up and filmed the lot which i thought was very distasteful, regardless of the rights and wrongs filming someone is such distress is completely out of order.

Worst was probably a 4hr flight with Thomas Cook. I'm only average height, but i couldn't sit with my legs in front of me due to the proximity of the seat in front.....which was then reclined
Best one was being asked if I minded having the over wing emergency exit seat on a 15 hour flight- no seats in front of me and a nice gap to the adjoining seat- all i had to do was open the door in the event of an emergency landing |

with the boys mum, On our return flight from Fiji. we were told at the air port that they'd double booked our flight.
"We're really sorry, we can offer you a free upgrade? if you don't mind sitting in business class?"

lol... i was working for a train company in their european travel dept when the volcano went up....
it got so busy eurostar were literaly passing all passengers our way who were not doing the basic london - paris/brussels route so that we could get as many people out and back as possible (and we came up with some very very genius routes... lol )
i was the nerd where people in the office could shout almost any place in europe and i could shout back the best way to get them back...
for all the grief that was happening people were so understanding knowing we were trying to help...
ended up winning awards for the way we dealt with it... |

I can only imagine that someone booked a flight from another airport with the same name as the one you were flying from but in another country! Booking systems can't book flights that don't exist.
