I have an account on ebay selling and buying items as does my son, both of us recently have had a warning that selling and buying out side of ebay is not done this has come about by other sellers taking off their product and us contacting them privately to see if the item was still for sale.
We were both warned that our accounts would be restricted ??? the point i am trying to make is ebay is being nosey in to our private mail surely this is wrong also when you now buy something within seconds a mail from ebay comes through "action needed now please pay".
It would suggest to me that ebay is struggling against other media that gives free advertising and ...no final value fee...have any other fabbers had experience of ebay rules etc.
Bemused.... |

I'm just surprised you didn't think eBay generated traffic wasn't scanned. Obviously they'll be checking for T&Cs being broken but it's just an automated process and you can bet it's in the T&Cs that they can. As for the pay now email, that's just automated, it's always been like that or at least I can remember when it wasn't. |

Been with ebay since 2006 and it was never as bad as it is today.......the fees are a joke now, time to sell elsewhere methinks |

Agreed re the fees, they just keep going up and up. I've stopped selling there these days and using Facebook buy and sell pages instead. I just with Craigslist was bigger in the UK. |

Our local paper has free adverts to sell up to £100.00 cant get any cheaper than that.

eBay have always said that you are not allowed to use adverts on eBay to encourage people to buy from you off site. *Always*. Because it means you don't have to pay their listing and final value fees.
And eBay messages aren't private mail - they are messages on the eBay site. I think if you read the TOS you'll find that eBay are fully entitled to read anything that goes through their internal messaging system. |

It isn't private mail that ebay are looking at, it Ebay Messages. This is a System that belongs to Ebay, is Run By Ebay, and Monitored by Ebay. They just allow you to use their messaging service as a safe communication service for contacting other Ebayers.
Also, Ebay is only doing what every other company does and protecting their business. If everyone just exchanged a few messages and then made the sale outside of Ebay, they would go bust... but you'd also have a lot more people who's purchases never arrive, or are not worth the money when they do... with NO Comeback.

EBay has done that for years. I get warnings that I can't sell off eBay. Still do. Just don't make it obvious. As some people on eBay like to report you. Or anything they can report.
I just don't like eBay fees way to high. Am paying alot to them. |

If you contact anyone on eBay - using their own internal systems (messaging) then you're naive to think, eBay, wouldn't scan it.
Plenty of people selling on there, add contact details and comments like "prefer cash" or similar - caveat emptor.
If eBay isn't cost effective, find another platform to sell on. Fees are generally prohibitive nowadays, but there's always a way forward. |
