a Primark shoebox in Leicester

I had just gone into the kitchen and as I pressed the light switch one of the halogen bulbs went and ‘ping’…. and all the lights went out.

No real problem the circuit breaker is in the pantry…. flicked the switch … job done.

Left the kitchen and got to the bottom of the stairs, hit the switch to turn the landing light on… ‘ping’ the bulb went. Back off to the kitchen I went in the dark. Got to the circuit breaker in the pantry…. flicked the switch … job done.

Up the stairs in the dark and went to turn on the spotlights in my work room (as the landing light had blown….. ‘ping’…,. you are fucking joking!

At this point if I was a more nervous type, I recon I’d be getting a tad paranoid that ‘something’ wanted me to be in the dark.

sounds more like an overloaded system than a gremlin to be honest. Switch stuff off! Maybe things left on standby?

No such things as gremlins, ghosties or ghoulies.

Trip the RCD for the downstairs lighting circuit and try turning on each upstairs light until it trips out, if it doesn't try the same technique on the downstairs lights by tripping the RCD for the upstairs circuit and then try each downstairs light till it trips.

If that doesn't work you've got a gremlin.

Had to giggle at that, you said gremlin like it was a serious consideration to the solving the problem.
