do u need noise to get off to sleep ?

this is the source of many a disagreement between the other half and i !

i like some noise usually in the form of a radio (on low) whereas she prefers complete silence.

complete silence & darkness combined freaks me out and if anything makes me more awake than sleepy.

so who's with me on the need for some sound before sleep and who prefers complete silence ?

i'm like you - takes me ages to drop off and cannot go without a bit of background noise, usually have my mp3 player to help. can't read in bed though.

Once fucked a bird who left the tv all night. I asked her to turn it off but no joy. So at 3 am i tried to fuck her up the arse as i couldn't sleep which went badly. Since then i don't like any noise at night. Bad experiences can have a dramatic effect!

as a wake up call, i can't imagine an impromptu bumming is up there on anybody's hit list

I've spent most of my adult sleeping hours with the BBC World Service on in the background.

Apart from the very welcome subliminal educational aspect it's comforting to know that Bush House hasn't been nuked.

Total silence and darkness....

Have to wrap myself up in the duvet in an attempt to shut out all sound and light....usually wake up suffocating especially in this hot weather... Duh!

If you use lots of lube and cough loudly as you slip it in there is a small possibility you might get away with it!

I agree about the pitch black. I moved my bedroom from the south east corner of my building to the north west corner but I still need blackout blinds.

Blackout blinds, ear plugs and an eyemask for me.

Can sleep through the noise of airplanes but the slightest movement in the house wakes me up!

I need near complete darkness usually, but I sometimes listen to rainymood (google it) which features the sound of raindrops hitting a roof and distant thunder. I find it oddly comforting, I think a lot of people do. It's funny. It's a very instinctive thing, might be from our cave dwelling days, I have a feeling it's deeply rooted in the human pysche.

I can fall asleep just as well with the telly on as I can with it off. But I rarely sleep in complete silence. I have a noisey clock and always have a window open.... but I don't notice the traffic noise or the ticking... I just have to hear other people complain about them.

I only draw my curtains in the winter so some light comes in. I also have my tv on. If I don't touch it for four hours it turns itself off. If I've slept and the tv turns off, I wake up: just turn tv on again to get back to sleep!

i have to have some noise, or a film or something, thank god for iplayer its stopped my outgoings of dvds being so high! it is wierd though, and has always been a pain in the arse for gfs... i usually put a timer on as i can nod off in mins if theres something on, yet if theres nothing i think about far too much n usually freak myself out or overthink n get stressed, wonder if theres a study somewhere on this....

Silence or noise doesn't bother me. I can sleep on a clothesline if I'm tired enough

Siren prefers totally sensory deprivation to get to sleep. She wear an eye mask, ear plugs and the room has to be pitch black. I find it unnerving as it's like sleeping in a void. I can sleep under a plane revving all four engines if I'm tired enough.

No I need utter peace and quiet and black/dark curtains. If I am incredibly tired I can fall asleep in front of the tv but its not a deep sleep.

I did do an experiment once and have the radio on very low all night, had a very disturbed nights sleep so would never do it again

And my new Big Ben is so loud I cannot get used to it so have banished it to a cupboard in the spare room

I'm another that needs pitch black darkness and total silence. I wear ear plugs and have blackout curtains up.

I have to have the sound of an extreamly loud fart before I nod off.

Its like heralding entry into the land of Nod for me.
