So I've been ignoring the letters from a private car parking company in the hope they'll just go away. Now I'm getting debt recovery letters. Anyone dealt with this before?? |

They'll get increasingly threatening.
Depends how much you think they'll bother taking you to court over it.
Chances are they won't bother, but if they did. You'd most likely lose |

We persuaded our daughter to pay hers. There has been a recent case of a woman being legally obliged to pay something in the region of £24k to a private company.
It depends on the circumstances so the best thing you can do is get advice from CAB or similar. |

You'll think I'm taking the Mick, but search for a site called Pepipoo.
It's a forum all about the often illegal attempts to extort money from you.
Helped me fight a parking fine and win.
Good luck |

That £24k woman had hund_eds of unpaid fines..
Personally I have successfully igno_ed about 3/4 over the past few years. The letters get threatening, then it's moved on to debts collection agency (which is often registe_ed to same address as the parking company hmm), they threaten court, then they offer a discount, then bit more court, then they stop.
If they do actually take you to court (highly unlikely), just then pay the fine. |

Not all council fines are legal. They flout the rules and get away with it.
You can write to them telling them you are contesting the fine which delays things.. but like i said..

Speak to the CAB or get advice as I think the law changed last year. Before they were conside_ed an unenforceable penalty however they are now seen in some circumstances as a legitimate charge to protect a business interest. |
