Was having a think today about my school days. On the whole, I really enjoyed school and was fortunate to have some wonderfully inspiring and thought provoking teachers who championed me and encouraged me. A shout out to Mrs H at primary school who helped me learn joined-up handwriting and told me to believe in myself. To Mr K who supported me to realise that doing things differently to others could still get me where I wanted to go. To Mrs S who inspired my story-writing. And to Mr M who captured my fascination with science.
Which teacher/s do you remember as pivotal?
Who inspired you and why?
And if school wasn't so positive, feel free to vent at that annoying teacher if it helps.
But, please let's keep everything within forum rules. ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

My music teacher gave me so much encouragement and pushed me to be the best I could. Best teacher I had although there were a few close seconds. The newly qualified art teacher I had in 6th year was hot though! |

None of my teachers were particularly inspiring. However over the years I've come to realise that almost all of them were excellent teachers. When I started to learn French again after more than 20 years all the verbs, some of the grammar and vocabulary came back to me with little effort, it must have been drummed in to me

Miss Honey......... Are you a teacher ?
Meli ..... you're shocked toooooooo ?"
I am!
Yes, there were a couple of teachers. Miss B was a wonderful bohemian, kaftan clad sort who inspired my love of literature by buying me books that the school library refused to get in when I was thirteen. Without her, I wouldn't have the passion for the text that formed part of my thesis. I attended her funeral two years ago and still go back to my school to talk to students who are interested in Higher Education regularly because of the impact she had on me. |

Yeah I play a few instruments and sing in a band. I was too shy to ever perform in front of anyone until I was put in his class. |

Sorry, ignore me. It really was a miserable time for one reason or another. However, an old army colleague really did inspire to retry and then several university lecturers really have and continue to inspire me hugely ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

My English teacher for GCSEs Miss T. I didn't do that well in my sats the year before (no idea why) and ended up in a lower set that I should have been. I'd finish my work a lot quicker than the rest of the class and she would give me extra work or let me go and sit in the little store room and read whatever book I liked . It would have been far easier for her to just leave me sat there waiting on everyone else but she always pushed me to do more

Mixed bag for me. Loved ms Taylor at primary school. Hottest milf alive!
Moved city's and schools at 13 and never quite fitted in at the new place. Got bullied and dropped out at 14 without a gcse, joined a gang and started getting into trouble with the law.
It was only later in life that understood the value of education. I'm due to complete my university degree this year and am now thinking of doing a masters.
Shout out to my current tutor without whom it wouldn't have been possible. Great teachers make such a huge difference. ?? |

Mrs Warlow was a good un. When it came to GCSE choices, I'd decided to do Geography until she told me I'd be a great loss to the History department
Mrs Lewis, while a complete dragon, made me realise that I was pretty good at maths if I wanted to be.
And the Mrs would fall in there as she taught me how to revise at uni |

I was in a young offenders institute when it was time to sit my exams and if it wasn't for Mr Clarke there's no way I'd have got any. I only got four but still felt like an achievement considering everything that had went on in the previous year |
