When is a swinger... A swinger
Jump to: Newest in thread
Just a question that crossed my mind the other day. Do you all label yourself as swingers i.e. In the same way a person would say I'm a smoker or I'm a runner. At what point did you accepts /define or knowingly class yourself as a swinger as opposed to someone who just likes sex. I don't think I would class myself as a swinger although been on the scene a while. Does going to swingers events etc automatically mean you are a swinger? Interested to hear your responses and experience. |

Like m1cks I think the term is dated.
I've always used it as a term to describe those who are not into ownership of others sexually and see sex as an enjoyable recreational activity. Jealousy should always be absent.
The internet has certainly increased the number of people who claim to be swingers.
Most people on here are singles looking for a shag without commitment ......simple as. Jealousy , hatred and bitching abound. And then when their partners find out ......... well !!![](/icons/s/wink.gif) |

I prefer to say that I'm non-monogamous, but that covers both committed and uncommitted relationships. And uncommitted non-monogamy is basically swinging. Swinging is a word that people understand, so I like to use it sometimes. |

Most swingers I've met in person and online seem to be complicity in the 'ownership' paradigm of relationships.
And most couples seem to have aspects of jealousy when they swing. |

Never say never... Although I've happily played with couples... I don't imagine I would engage in the lifestyle if I was in a relationship. Would prob feel something akin to jealousy (I try to think I'm not the jealous type lol) to have my partner with another man |

I would suggest that to call yourself a 'swinger' then it wouldn't be a status that changes with relationship.
For instance - if I like windsurfing then I wouldn't stop windsurfing or calling myself a windsurfer just because I got a girlfriend. |

We call ourselves swingers, though don't think there's another term to describe it. Lots on here don't fit into the old classification of swingers but putting a name to it doesn't really bother us x |

Calling it 'ownership' is a giving a distorted view. There may be aspects of 'jealousy' (strong word) but by virtue that they are swinging, they are happy each other experiencing something outside of the 1:1 norm. |

As a little old fish in a big pond, i look at swingers who are a couple. meet for a social and then take it from their, like most single guys the chance of sex is sometime all that needed to feel wanted.
So my answer would be..couples = swingers, single men = chances , single women = hoping for whatever. Billy |

"Why use labels at all?? What's the need for them?
We are who and what we are.
Labels are words to describe things. They can have connotations, but things have to have descriptions...."
Very true, but we're talking about people, not things? |

I like labels. I find it easier to describe what a person does or likes by using a label. I find it easier to explain what I'm about using a label. |

I'm a straight white man, who enjoys swinging. All labels that are often debateble here, but most people would clearly understand the phrase without a problem ![](/icons/s/wink.gif) |

Pure semantics and ill thought out ones.
I wear many labels. They are part and parcel of understanding. |

Not quite correct as some think you may be FAB straight and all men are Bi ? So you stating you are straight is pointless to those people

"Swingers are couples, us singles just shag around lol "
But what about singles looking for swinging relationship? Can they not define as swingers?
I know there are plenty who seek NSA but some of us seek a committed non monogamous relationship. I admire swinging couples who have each other as a primary (or more for the poly folk) partner yet happy to share themselves sexually with others. Want it for myself. I'd say I'm swinger. |

Also true, I just find 'mansplaining' amusing. Oh look, I used a label. |
