Mr Charles is a legend, had the privilege to have worked with him a couple of times and it's always a laugh.

And anything by Chic/Nile Rodgers is perfect for this weather...

Nice one! You ever seen Gilad Atzmon? Strange ideas on politics but easily the most accomplished sax player I've ever heard in my life...there's nothing he can't play! Very middle-eastern influenced...not many pentatonics flying around but he plays incendiary bebop when he's in the mood.

I'll check him out! Gilad's albums can be a bit dry, live is the best way to experience him (he's the Blockheads sax player too).

He did guest on this though and his solo is amazing (as is the rest of the track!)

Old soul boy here. Still got all my vinyl.

Favourite album, Tashan- Chasing a Dream.

Favourie Artist- Roy Ayers.

Favourie Group- Midnight Starr.

Favourite Female Artist-Jean Carne, followed closely by Betty Wright and live Patrice Rushen too.

Special mention to Luther for silkiest voice, followed closely by Teddy Pendergrass.

Favourite track tricky but Love TKO by Teddy Pendergrass and I've Got The Love by Starpoint are up there.

Stanley Clarke for my funky jazzy moods.

More modern Artist- Jaheim.

Best track to get the mood going- Teddy Pendergrass Turn Off The Lights.

Fancy listening to some vinyl together OP If all goes well I might have to put Teddy on

"Luther Vandross, The Whispers, Heatwave, Shakatak, Cameo, George Benson, Quincy Jones, Billy Griffen, R Kelly + hundreds more.

I have over 300gb of soul/funk/jazz on my media player so its hard to choose one.

Secret Garden (Barry White, George Benson & Quincy Jones)

In between the sheets (The Isley Brothers)

Mind Blowing Decisions but with Tony Gadd from Aswad when he done lead singer to their Heatwave greatest hits remix album.

"

Wicked choices. That's my fave Isley bros tune.

"Untouchable Machine Shop - Machine Shop Part 2

https://g.co/kgs/xKGgJ2 funky! "

There are a series of albums called Funky Jams (Volumes 1-8) that have some brilliant, mainly (very) obscure funk on them. That comes from one of those!

Jess - if you like that Erykah Badu track, check this mash-up from a good few years ago.

I'm sure you'll recognise the other great track:

https://youtu.be/CJTz_t2Oiz4

Finally managed to get this great slice of Latin funk on a 7" - definitely in the record box for nights I run.

https://youtu.be/9NVG8iWJEVQ

Finally, I always found Janis Joplin a bit screechy on most songs, but this closes the documentary on her that came out a while back. I think it's one of the most beautiful. soulful, performances ever:

I got them from Discogs, second-hand years ago, which seems to be the only place you can still get them. Failing that PM me an email address and I'll drop them onto some webspace for you

Had to come back in here, as just being playing this.

It's more disco than anything, but not disco as most know it.

It's long, it's slower/deeper, the vocals are over the top, the production is pretty raw, it speeds up/slower down.....and it's amazing.

Used to go for thousands of £ until a re-issue a couple of years back.

Oh yes love this! Her vocal is awesome, disco (proper disco) definitely fits the bill. Proper raw production, lush! Love hearing rare stuff - bless you/tube!!!

Glad you liked - I actually find her vocal a bit "too much", but it's actually the imperfections in the song I like.

Don't think anyone has mentioned Carleen Anderson yet. Mama Said is one of my favourites, as well as Apparently Nothing by The Young Disciples with Carleen Anderson on vocals.

Another great old school track is "Pick Up The Pieces" by The Average White Band.

Finally "Summer Madness" - Kool & The Gang, the inspiration for Will Smith & Jazzy Jeff's "Summertime".
