Little buggers.

I've been invaded with fruit flies, from a rotten banana, hidden in a dark corner of the kitchen......

My question is, were the eggs in the banana

? How do I get rid of them, without been cruel, and obviously getting the fly spray out? I'm a bit of a Buddhist, and hate killing things .
