I dont know whats best for keeping the tan once youve got it, surely after sun is only good for cooling the heat when youve just been in the sun not preserving a tan |

you should have started with aftersun as soon as you started tanning on holiday, then moved onto moisturiser and that would have ensured it lasted longer...
its probably too late now its started peeling already |

You can't, it a natural response to healing damaged skin. Aftersun is just an expensive moisturiser with a marketing team behind it. |

If the skin is dry and damaged it will peel anyway but almost any moisturiser will smooth and soothe.
I recommend a thorough exfoliate either with a dry roughish flannel, olive oil and salt or a commercial one. Followed by an allover body lotion.
Next time you tan do it slowly, use a higher spf and stay in the shade longer. |

"Lots of moisturiser will keep it.
I think thats the general consensus"
Nothing will keep or prolong a tan. If it did, there wouldn't be a multimillion pound industry in making people darker skinned and we would all be permanently dark. |

As I said above, tan slowly, use a higher spf and accept that a slow, light tan will do less damage than a quick, dark one. |

The fact that your skin is peeling, which means you let it burn, also means you weren't using a high enough SPF. |

If you're peeling you either need to up it to 50 at first, apply 30 more frequently or spend less time in direct sun.
I spend a lot of time outside and never even go for a walk without sun screen on exposed skin, winter or summer. I follow what I've told you and don't peel. |

Because your face and forearms are exposed to the sun far more frequently than your shoulders and chest and will have built up a certain amount of protection although it doesn't mean there's no damage. |

You don't have to be a medical professional to know those things, all the information is easily available. |

Yeah i know, i dont know a lot about how to get a long lasting tan but i do know the chemical processes that go on in the skin and why it happens |

Once you're peeling there is nothing you can do about it.
For future reference use more suncream next time. Most people never use enough. An average size bottle is only enough for roughly 2 days for one person. Keep re-applying regularly and use a moisturiser or aftersun lotion every day. |

Your skin constantly regenerates itself so the only way to stay tanned is to expose it to UV rays on a regular basis. All the lotions and potions in the world won't stop it fading or prolong it. |

If there was water and wind in addition that may have dried your skin out and made it more vulnerable to peeling. |
