I had it. Few years back until it ran out.
Took me a good while for my body to get used to it.
Gained a small amout of weight, my periods did stop after about 9 years( bliss) but it ( and I don't know if it's happened to anyone else) did kill my sex drive. That said when I had it I was single not wanting or looking so I didn't care. |

Have had two over the last 9 years now and I've never had a problem with it, was already chunky so gaining weight never happened, periods stopped straight away (best 9 years of my life!) and no other effects, was worried about the 'string' as I heard your partner can feel it but that's nonsense, for me anyway lol

No problems with weight gain for me, no change in libido just peace of mind. I had the strings cut shorter on my first one because Mr N could feel them and went and got it checked once because I couldn't feel it.
Removal was waaay easier than insertion . |

I have one and have had one now for 6 years. Best thing ever. I don't think I ever want a period again.
I gained a lot of weight since putting it in but I think that's just cos I'm fat lol don't think the coil is to blame. My sex drive got worse lol but yet again I don't think the coil is to blame. |

"Mine caused serious depression, had it removed after 6 months, my gynae casually remarked "yeah, I had the same issue myself with it".
Horrible that happened to me with one of the mini pills."
Oh they caused ovarian cysts for me . The Mirena was my last attempt at hormonal contraception. |

Had mine three weeks, so far, I'm not convinced (she says sat racked with period pains and bleeding for yet another day!) really hoping it settles! I'm big already so not sure I'll notice the weight gain! Lol! And well, never been so unhorny in my life! |

Yet the mirena worked well for me. Contraception is a real pain and concern isn't it. One of the many benefits of being my age is that there's no need for it. |

Mine took a fair few months to settle Hun. Period thy seemed to drag on forever, bouts of thrush I nearly had the bloody thing ripped out but I stayed with it and it did settle. Turned out to be the best thing ever, when my periods did actually stop. Try to keep with it for 3/4 months and see how it goes. |

My periods have never stopped completely with it. But they do only last a day and are very light. I can't report any weight gain due to having the coil. I'd like to blame it but I'm just a greedy bitch and eat and drink too much of the bad things. Levels of horniness don't seem to be affected either but then this is my 7th year of having one so I've no idea what it would be like without! I think mine settled after a about 3 months and was definitely worth persevering with. |

I'm often amazed that despite landing men on the moon, establishing technology that enables people to communicate from across the globe in seconds and the invention of Facebook its proved impossible to find a safe, 100% effective, immediately reversible method of contraception. |

"Any users, why am i sooo horny
Will I gain weight
Will my periods really stop ?? Thanks ladies "
Forget weight gain, there is a class action (100s of wen kn a group) lawsuit in the USA claiming Mirena cause / worsen (life changing) auto immune disorders like lupus. This is not trivial - imagine having plastic and copper put under your skin, for years : could it have an effect ?
That said you can fu k any time you like, genuinely no periods BUT the fishing line strings can poke the end of your mans cock when screwing, especially early on, which is not great...
Better than implants probably, and than pills, but more problems than people are told in the uk
Your call. |

I had to go to the hospital and have a scan! They rummaged around and eventually got it out but I was nearly taken to theatre to have it removed.
I'm waiting to be sterilised now |

I had one fitted about 6 months ago to finally stop extremely heavy bleeding (I'd alwasy thought I was normal...what did I know?).
Bleeding: stopped within about 4 months (and periods were what I think most would onsider normal bleeding, for the first time in my life). Occassional spotting since, but hopefully that'll end.
Depression: I've struggled with major major episodes of depression the majority of my life, so I know what that feels like, and what I've experienced since having it fitted I attribute to havoc in my life at the moment. I really don't think the Mirena has caused it.
I talked to my GP about the depression, and she told me the coil is about 1/5th the hormones of the Pill, and remains mostly localized, rather than floating throughout the body as the Pill does. Not sure how acurate that is but I don't think the coil has contributed towards depression for me.
Hope this helps. |

Hate mine. Bled non stop for about four months. Still get periods and the strings have disappeared.
Had a scan and they said it's sat in the right place but the added estrogen in my system makes me too emotional.
Think I'll try the implant next |

Yeah I had a scan fairly soon after I had it fitted because they couldn't find the strings in my check up. ...I always knew it was going to be an issue on removal. When they finally removed mine I had to go to the GUM clinic as they have better equipment and are more experienced. My next stop was to be surgical removal. Even though I went through all that it didn't really hurt. Just a little uncomfortable at times that's all. |

I had mine 13 months ago. It took 6 months to settle down and my periods haven't stopped but they are much lighter and shorter.
I have gained over 2 stone in weight. I can't attribute that solely to the mirena coil. I've been eating loads of crap and stopped going to the gym.
My levels of horniness have always been high and i haven't noticed a change either way. |

I had the implant and had to have it removed within a few months as it turned me into a raving lunatic!!
If you are not doing well with the hormones from the coil, the implant will be much worse.
Hope you find a solution. Xx |

There's no estrogen in it. I think its leonorgestrol. Its often used to counteract the effect of estrogen on the lining of the womb in post menopausal women using it topically |

Have been using the coil 15yrs now (obv new ones every 5yrs), never had a problem with it. Love how preventive they are. I still get periods every month, regular as clockwork which is kinda reassuring as I def know I'm not pregnant but I'd actually prefer not to have them. No weight gain & sex drive is still there. |

After 3 regular T-coils I've had 3 Mirenas. Took about 6 weeks to settle the first time, but no issues with subsequent removal/changes.
No depression/weight changing issues.
Horniness levels directly in line with general happiness levels. When you feel good, you want to share it

Everyone should be aware of (alleged) big problems with mirena which are not publicised over here: Research auto immune disorders and mirena - there are big legal cases in the states. It's a foreign body (plastic and metal) that can imho provoke some nasty disorders , plus the strings jabbing like fishing wire in the end of your cock can be we off putting |

I've had an auto immune condition since the age of 12. Since having the mirena my condition has improved immensely. This is because my condition is badly affected by fluctuating hormone levels and the coil has evened it out. |

I'm on my third coil. Had a break after my 1st to have my daughter but had 2 more since then. Mines great. Normal periods throughout. No issues with it apart from a week or so after a new one is inserted while waiting for the strings to soften. Can't beat the peace of mind. I conceived twice on the pill so wouldn't risk that again and my current one should see me through menopause now. No weight gain apart from that down to over eating and my sex drive is huge. Though in reality it always has been. Definitely works for me. But I know it's not for everyone. |
