I don't like the word vanilla used to describe people with different ways of enjoying sex to anyone else. It seems a bit exclusive to me. I don't know why we need to differentiate really.

Vanilla is supposed to mean bland, as opposed to Neapolitan or mint choc chip.

I guess it's from ice cream. Vanilla is the regular one, other exotic ones are available....

Because everyone's version of normal is different and how would somebody feel if they were told they weren't normal because of their sexual likes.

Vanilla is nice, vanilla is one of the most popular flavours and is a great Base for adding a few extra sprinkles

I think it's because vanilla is the base level so to speak.

Normal is relative.

I don't use the word vanilla,it seems it's a bad thing when someone does or that you're dull. It's like ooh look at me I'm kinky and I belong to some superior group and you vanilla peoples can just go and do your missionary position stuff and don't darken my door

So is 'vanilla'. We might call a non swinging party vanilla. Hardcore bdsm people might call a swingers party 'vanilla'.

It's just a handy phrase, useful if the people are into the same kind of things as you.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. Vanilla is often described as somewhat conventional without any aspect of kink or fetishism. But again, it's all relative

We do, but not in a snooty way. If we were talking to a swinger friend we might say we were going to a Vanilla Party, so they didn't think we were going to a swinging party.

when you use words like normal that can kind of imply anything outside of that is abnormal.

Normal is a judgemental word.

Vanilla is just another flavour.

It may be standard, bland, most popular or default

If I want a different flavour, that is just my choice, not being abnormal. If I want a two scoops of different flavours and a flake, I'm greedy, not wrong

Language changes and social groups develop their own languages. I wouldn't choose it but it's widely known and reinventing the wheel isn't happening. Normal has undertones that are unpleasant too, so I avoid it
