"Job well done, the boys are giving Vern a good send off."
i know... as much as i like gregor, i would have extended verne till the world cup and let gregor learn the trade at glasgow.....
with the amount of money montpellier have verne will do a good job there....
glad to see the scots have a good 6 nations... i think a good 5/6 of them could be on the lions plane |

It's been great to see them scoring tries, playing some entertaining rugby. Like you, feel they'd benefit from another couple of Vern years.

Gotta say (grudgingly), that Ireland are good value for their lead at the moment. Seem hungrier for the ball, quicker lines, more aggressive in the tackles.
This much fabled bench of ours needs to produce now. |

They kinda are though aren't they? Six nations winner, equalled winning streak, an unbeaten tour last year, world cup winners, world cup finalists......so we missed out on the grand slam and the triple crown, we'll get them next year instead |

Well done England. A well deserved Championship win.
Dylan Hartley very humble in defeat on Irish television afterwards.
Good to see the Northern Hemisphere teams playing such varied game plans throughout. Bodes well for 2019. |

And the quotes above prove that the English still think they are..... Ireland on the other hand had a bad six nations but in the last six months have beaten the abs (best in the world) and England. Scotland were arguably the second best team and great to see. |

Absolutely BG and well deserved in both games. Only thing that annoyed me about game was Mike brown who behaved like a bad tempered brat particularly in the last 15 mins. Delighted he dropped the pass to end the game. |

And both times well deserved.
The losses to wales and the scots show that they figured out how to play against the Irish
England however will never learn. Same attitude of entitlement that makes them run into wall after wall and without the intelligence to run around |

If thats directed at my post then i can assure you im not bitter. The same view applies to whomever England play there is what seems to be a mental block for some reason.

Yes and well done
But over the years especially going back to the 1800s Ireland were not in any shape to compete.

on of the weird this that because of the way the rugby calandar is set... and the agreements they come up with, england and new zealand don't play each other very often (for example england and australia play each other every year....) so both sets of 18 game winning streaks don't involve playing the other.....
anyway.... ireland throughly deserved that win yesterday.....
i am going to make a bold prediction... i think there are going to be more englishmen that irishmen on the lions plane.... but i do think there are going to be more irishmen than englishmen in the starting xv for the 1st test in new zealand....
my starting lions xv at the moment would be ....
1) McGrath (Leinster and Ireland)
2) Jamie George (Saracens and England)
3) Furlong (Leinster and Ireland)
4) Johnny Gray (Glasgow and Scotland)
5) Maro Itoje (Saracens and England)
6) C J Stander (Munster and Ireland)
7) Sean O'Brien (Leinster and Ireland)
8) Billy Vinopula (Saracens and England)
9) Conor Murray (Munster and Ireland)
10) Johnny Sexton (Leinster and Ireland)
12) Owen Farrell (Saracens and England)
13) Gary Ringrose (Leinster and Ireland)
11) Liam Williams (Scarlets and Wales)
14) Anthony Watson (Bath and England)
15) Stuart Hogg (Glasgow and Scotland)
so i have 7 irishmen, 5 englishmen, 2 scots and a welshman at the moment.....
should be a cracking series... and tour in general because the all black have no warm up games before test 1, they are letting all their kiwis players play in the warm up games for their super rugby clubs... |

Good team but I think ringrose will go on tour but doubtful if he'll make 1st test. Don't agree with Williams either.
George north will start even if he arrives with one leg amputated and his arm in a sling or failing that Elliot Daly. 13- Jonathan Davies? Mark Bennett?
Hooker is debatable too. |

Agree with taking Bennett and Daly and would put Best and Warburton ahead of Stander and George...part of Lions selection has always been who will make good squad members on a arduous tour.. |

not budging on stander... you could argue that he has been the northern hemisphere player of the year.... as much as i like the welsh back row i think that may be one of the more interesting selections...
i went for jamie george because i think he is better that hartley... and is more steady in his throw than best has been... but if you were to say... rory starting and george coming off the bench i'd be happy with that...
north is an enigma... and plays well in spots... but in a way i think he has been found out a bit (putting big wingers on his side)
eliott daly goes on tour if only for his versitility.... |

Always difficult picking a Lions squad, controversially I would take Rob Kearney, Wales stopped Stander in his tracks! He could be a great player but this is a Lions tour and he has only had one good season so far!
Elliott Daly is one of the most gifted players I have seen, very few centres if any, can be stuck on the wing and still become one of the most promising players of the 6 Nations |

I am not saying daly isn't talented... the biggest thing may well be if you have sexton Farrell daly as your 10,12,13... a 16 stone all black centre or winger would be licking their chops... that would be just asking to be targeted and ran over... and for all their talents we know that they aren't great tacklers and are too brave for their own good |

"on of the weird this that because of the way the rugby calandar is set... and the agreements they come up with, england and new zealand don't play each other very often (for example england and australia play each other every year....) so both sets of 18 game winning streaks don't involve playing the other.....
anyway.... ireland throughly deserved that win yesterday.....
i am going to make a bold prediction... i think there are going to be more englishmen that irishmen on the lions plane.... but i do think there are going to be more irishmen than englishmen in the starting xv for the 1st test in new zealand....
my starting lions xv at the moment would be ....
1) McGrath (Leinster and Ireland)
2) Jamie George (Saracens and England)
3) Furlong (Leinster and Ireland)
4) Johnny Gray (Glasgow and Scotland)
5) Maro Itoje (Saracens and England)
6) C J Stander (Munster and Ireland)
7) Sean O'Brien (Leinster and Ireland)
8) Billy Vinopula (Saracens and England)
9) Conor Murray (Munster and Ireland)
10) Johnny Sexton (Leinster and Ireland)
12) Owen Farrell (Saracens and England)
13) Gary Ringrose (Leinster and Ireland)
11) Liam Williams (Scarlets and Wales)
14) Anthony Watson (Bath and England)
15) Stuart Hogg (Glasgow and Scotland)
so i have 7 irishmen, 5 englishmen, 2 scots and a welshman at the moment.....
should be a cracking series... and tour in general because the all black have no warm up games before test 1, they are letting all their kiwis players play in the warm up games for their super rugby clubs..."

"
No room for Mighty O'Mahony?"
good question.... and this is why i would love to be a fly on the wall in the selectors meeting...
if you think they are likely to take 8 "back row'ers".... you have to think stander, heaslip and o'brien are on the plane... plus warburton, tipuric and falatu and billy vinopula....
so thats 7.... john barclay and hamish watson play well for scotland... same with chris robshaw, do you take maro itoje as a 2nd rower or a back rower?
what do you even do with the person who was consider 2 times in a row european player of the year, steffon armitage?
the discussion over 2nd rowers and back rowers are going to be the most intense...
me personally i would be tempted to take o'mahoney just because i have seen how good he has been for munster all season and you know he links up well.....
can someone else put up a XV... so we can look at names..... lol

"Always difficult picking a Lions squad, controversially I would take Rob Kearney, Wales stopped Stander in his tracks! He could be a great player but this is a Lions tour and he has only had one good season so far!
Elliott Daly is one of the most gifted players I have seen, very few centres if any, can be stuck on the wing and still become one of the most promising players of the 6 Nations
I am not saying daly isn't talented... the biggest thing may well be if you have sexton Farrell daly as your 10,12,13... a 16 stone all black centre or winger would be licking their chops... that would be just asking to be targeted and ran over... and for all their talents we know that they aren't great tacklers and are too brave for their own good "
I would not put Daly's tackling technique in the same category as Farrell and Sexton, more in the fashion of a Guscott or Joseph, technically sound rather than big hitters...they are sound defensively but offer excellent attacking flair |
