"I know for a fact I consume too much sugar in my diet. But how do you cut sugar out of your diet without craving it?
Answers on a postcard"
The best way to get over an addiction is to substitute it with a other. For example, did you know crack cocaine is sugar free |

It's hard at first. One trick is to brush your teeth when you crave something sweet.
After a short time, the cravings will subside and anything with sugar will taste extremely sweet. |

I've tried and failed *opens bag of haribo* and by tried I mean I didn't go out and buy sweets today. My bf's mum bought them for me so it would be rude not to eat them.
Yes I have a sugar addiction. But I'm still losing weight so idc |

I've done it by decreasing it over s few days and then down to no added sugars, just natural. Perhaps do it alongside s new health programme, such as extra walking each day.
Focus on ensuring your food is really satisfying to you, so you're not 'making do'.
If there's no urgent need to be off it, introduce dietary changes with it, such as new vegetables, or increasing your intake of foods that are digested more slowly. If you make it like a punishment, you may rebel easily. |

don't necessarily replace with sweeteners. you'll still get cravings for sweet things. i found by cutting sweeteners in my brews i went off all sweet things as they tasted sweeter.
maybe replace with stevia? that stuff tastes like shit, leaves a nasty after taste also. |

stay away from the fab forums if you crave cake also.
i noticed since i took a break from here i was less hungry, then the hunger came back when there was a lot of food being talked about, but now i can handle food talk a little while. |

Just remove it from your diet.
Cut the soft fluffy bullshit & just do it.

Spot on and once you stop, it doesn't take long for the cravings to go and you'll never want to feel the way you did when you were eating it. It does mean dropping g carbs though as they are metabolised as sugar and cause the same cravings. |

"Isn't it pretty hard to cut sugar out completely,I could be making excuses though. Suppose it's a case of looking at the ingredients more carefully."
I've been doing it for ten years. I don't eat anything that has a label so it's simple. |

Ok I'll go with that that does sound simple. Actually it sounds really hard to not buy anything that has a label, especially having kid's and their treat's. |

Although I advocate cold turkey method I think its important to make it part of a concerted effort to change any eating habit that involves consuming processed and pre-prepared foods .....
Eat fresh and make meal from scratch rather than opening a packet or relying on tinned foods.... |

I used to drink my tea and coffee with the standard milk and 2 sugars before deciding to cut down on my sugar intake...went straight to no sugar with them...unpleasant for the first day or two adjusting to the taste but then just stuck it out. |

Still better than tinned peaches! I use a concentrated tomato paste, much lower in sugars and far tastier. |

Scientific studies have shown that sugar is not addictive, anyone who says otherwise is lying.
What the brain enjoys is the reaction to sugar and the chemicals released in the body, but that is not addictive, just enjoyable.
If you can't go without sugar then your issue is not addiction, it is you.
Simply put, and bluntly so I know I might upset some people but the next time you go for something sugary, ask yourself do you need it? What will this do to my body that a healthy snack wouldn't?
If that doesn't work and you want to lower you sugar intake to change your body appearance then you should have a stern word with yourself, if you cant control eating something purely because you enjoy it and try to convince yourself it is an addiction then you will fail miserably.
We all enjoy a sweet treat, but don't claim it's addictive, its only enjoyment. |

It seems in the world of dietary needs that for every scientific report supporting a definitive train of thought there are an equal number definitive scientific reports challenging those claims .......
Interrogating google does not always make matters clear |

A craving is the bodies way to tell you it needs something. Don'ttotally Iignore it.... its actually not good to ignore cravings assuming you've a bbalanced diet.
I cut out desserts...I only have a dessert if I'm eating out for a meal. I cut out coffee completely except on very special occasions. ..no sugar and cut out sugar in tea.
lots of water and no juices.
Don't cut it out completely. It's the steady consumption that does more harm ( as it accumulates) rather than occassional binge. |

"Isn't it pretty hard to cut sugar out completely,I could be making excuses though. Suppose it's a case of looking at the ingredients more carefully."
Depends what you eat.
If you make the majority of your meals from scratch then it's very easy! If you buy ready meals or food that's ready to eat then you'll find it almost impossible as it's put it pretty much everything.
It also will probably be hidden and not called 'sugar' but either dextrose or maltodextrin. Which are both essentially the same thing. |
