All along the Watchtower - Hendrix I prefer to Bob Dylan's version.
And Tainted Love - Soft Cell can't remember who did it originally but it didn't take off. |

Gloria Jones did it mid 70s? Imelda May has also done a cover version of this which is well worth seeking out |

Johnny Cash's version cover of Hurt is better than the NIN original.
Also, some swedish ska band do a cover of The Final Countdown by Europe, it's bloody brilliant. I can't remember their name though |

Like Springsteen's original of Blinded by the light but prefer the version by Manfred Mann's Earthband, especially love. Boss fans all over will be burning effegies of me for this one.
Also like lot of covers of Dylan songs as great writer but not always best vocals and production for me |

its virtually unheard of for me to prefer a cover BUT I agree that Disturbed's version of Sound of silence is better than the original, also quite like Five Finger Death Punch's version of Bad Company |

A thread that mentions queen adreena and mentions Wipers and Gg Allin (sort of)? Bargain.
Not sure Nirvana's D7 is better, Melvins take on Youth Of America is pretty awesome though...
The Fall - Mr Pharmacist
Johnny Cash - Hurt

Was going to say "Hurt" but already added.
How about:
Papa Was A Rolling Stone, covered by Was Not Was
God Gave Rock And Roll To You, covered by Kiss (and as featured in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey)

kd Lang and John Cale both do ace versions of Hallejah too. I think the former's is better the Jeff Buckley and the latter's version is much older.
I love Jeff Buckley's version, but think Cale deserves more credit for re-inventing the song.
I also think Ananda Shankar's sitar-funk version of Jumping Jack Flash is better than the original! |

"Johnny Cash's version cover of Hurt is better than the NIN original
I have to strongly disagree
Trent Reznor doesn't disagree"
Trent's actual response when asked how he felt when he first heard Cash's version was that "it was like watching some guy fuck your girlfriend but doing it better than you"
I'm wondering if one or two guys on fab could empathise! |

Aretha Franklin's version of The Weight. Jawbox's version of Cornflake Girl. The Fall's version of There's a Ghost in My House. And I'll get strung up for this but I love the Nouvelle Vague version of Making Plans for Nigel. Oh, and Kirstie Maccoll's version of A New England. |

Nico's cover of These Days is fucking iconic. Emily Well's cover of Juicy is so different and eerie. And by the end of that summer in 2013 i was so sick of Get Lucky that Daughter's cover was a welcome change.
I know loads of people have mentioned it but i can't stand Disturbed's version of Sound of Silence. His voice is so throaty and nasal and is a bit too 'rock cliche' for me. its not an uncoverable song either, James Blake's cover sounds like an updated version of the original (then again his covers of A Case of You and Limit to your Love are impeccable). |

"Handbags and gladrags by Stereophonics.
Much prefer it to Rod Stewart."
Try it by Mike D'abo which is the original. Not his best song and if honest I prefer Stereophonics version |
