I need to persuade the OH to let the cats move in with us when we buy our first house? currently we go between my rental and his part owner, but when we buy his outright, no need to rent ...

Don't have the discussion with him, just move in and bring them with you

Hold on...how are your cats not already considered as fully fledged family members?

They are by me and the kids, but he wont admit he cares (just feeds them treats on the sly)

Exactly they're not new cats, what does he expect you to do with them?

That does seem like quite a man thing. I caught myself letting my evil cat lick my nose the other day

Don't try to convince him. Slip into the conversation that the cats will love their new home and they will need acclimatising to their new surroundings.

He should realise it's not up for discussion and they come with you.

He should know that anyway.

So you and him would consider dumping the responsibility of caring for the cats who look to you for everything on overcrowded and overworked shelter!

Ours stay in at night now as there he cruelty has moved closer to home. Not sure what the authorities are doing about it ... if not for the cats sake, because animal cruelty such as this is often a precursor of human cruelty. I think it has been happening for a while so I have been reluctant to move.

I know, when we moved to the UK I brought the three cats with me ... cost a lot and they had to have a cavity search in customs. You should have seen their faces when they came out of that .....

OP you obviously don't know the rules. Cats decide what their humans must do.

"OP you obviously don't know the rules. Cats decide what their humans must do. "

When our house was being remodelled for six months, they stayed in it and we visited to feed twice a day because a cattery would have upset them, they like their territory, so any move will be a bit of a wrench ... they certainly rule this house

The cats may not like your new home.

One of mine walked back to our old neighbourhood over 30 miles away.

Picked him up off our old neighbours. Took him weeks to settle.

If they're not happy to stay in, that will hopefully do the trick.

I agree with you that this behaviour can be a sign of future violence towards people. Hope the police ar taking it seriously.

Well, That escalated quickly!

By the way, cats are pretty much self sufficient, they decide if you're their human or not. They wonder off when they get bored of you and find some old dear who'll feel them more! Selfish little shits they are

And yes, before you boot off, we have three!
