Are they allowed to work on a Sunday?
Check your council website on the times when building work should be carried out. Print it out, highlight the relevant section, including the actions that the council can take. Go next door and hand them the highlighted printout.

Are they allowed to work on a Sunday?
Check your council website on the times when building work should be carried out. Print it out, highlight the relevant section, including the actions that the council can take. Go next door and hand them the highlighted printout.

It's not a load of rubbish.
There are times when it is deemed unsociable to be doing such work. The environment dept will advise what procedures can be carried out if it is deemed unacceptable. Yes, it can be taken as far as legal action. I don't know where you assumed that the police would be knocking at the door as it's there they are party animals. I never made such a claim.
Building contractors tend to want a good relationship with the council, so the thought of a neighbour potentially kicking up a drink won't be good for them in the long run.
I had to endure people working next door on Christmas AND Boxing Days. I finally had to march over and say that although I realised that they had a deadline and had put up with the noise for months, I had enough for that day, thank you very much. Eight am to eight pm was too too much for me.
After enduring that and taking action, I have every sympathy with the OP. On my council's website,Sunday's are a no-no.
If you cannot see it on your council website, then it must be hidden.
But it is there.

Not true.
If it is someone working on their private property and the leasehold belongs to the council, I'm afraid they do. The property in question is ex LA.

Of course if it's a council house to even carry out the work you have to be on the council frameworks, and this is not set in stone as I have carried work out for the council on Sunday's and early hours in emergencies

Indeed,a blind eye will be turned to emergencies. However, in my case it wasn't. It was a long term project as the house had been resold (again).
Also the level of tolerance can depend on where you live. Some councils can't even carry out rubbish collections before 8 in some parts of London. They were taken to courts by the local residents, who won the case. You don't see many building contractors on a Sunday round here. If you do, they're very quiet....

Council website / the law / printing out regulations etc etc. First step is just to have a friendly chat over the garden fence. The neighbour might not even be aware the sound was carrying and could well be horrified to find they have woken their neighbour. Communication is the key.
Hope it's a one-off OP. |
