I have recently bought a 7.5 ton lorry for my hobby. Because of it`s size I changed the tax class from HGV to Private HGV. Not a huge problem but I couldn`t tax the blasted thing until I had the new V5C document in my possession which was a three week wait. I couldn`t tax it online as this would not only have meant me taxing it in the wrong class but breaking the law as there are requirements for an HGV used for hire and reward that I don't have or need! Now the V5C has come, I`ve Office (the only place I could tax it) has retained the new V5C which I`ve had in my hand for less than a day!
Now had the Local Registration Office still been in place, all of this would have been sorted the day after I purchased the vehicle! Sometimes centralisation and technology is brilliant! Other times it just sucks!
Bring back the local vehicle registration offices!
