Branded goods or Supermarket own brand?

When you go shopping are there any items that you always have to buy the 'branded' goods rather than the supermarket own brand?
Or conversely are there any items where you actually prefer the 'cheaper' version?
I was buying some Ibuprofen t'other day and the own brand was significantly cheaper than the branded one with exactly the same active ingredients! No brainer. Yet some people still prefer to 'trust' the branded name. Do you? |

I tried some own brand 'Wheat Biscuits' a little while back. This particular Supermarkets own brand was definitely inferior in taste than my usual Weetabix so definitely sticking to the branded name there.
But for things like chopped tomatoes etc for use in cooking the own branded ones do the job just as well as the more expensive 'big brands' |

"I'm not too bothered with branded goods, but I do always get branded tea, washing up and toilet paper.
Branston pickle and HP sauce?"
I don't buy either. |

"Always branded coffee, vodka, , washing up liquid and cereal. For everything else own-label or cheaper alternatives are just as good. "
Pretty much this.
For cupboard staples such as tinned tomatoes, rice, pasta etc I buy own brand. |

"I wouldn't compromise on my hard water Yorkshire tea!
But most other things are fair game, I work very close to a Lidl and buy a lot from there. Some great quality stuff."
Tea, the important thing. |

There are lots of the own brand stuff I buy, but insist on fairy washing up liquid, bold. Comfort and horny and daddies sauce. Sometimes going down a product can give you a good saving x |

I like a lot of branded items but I'm willing to try replacements and see if I like them as much. Really enjoy Aldis sauces such as ketchup but I would only eat Kellogg's cornflakes |

"Always buy branded, but not always the most popular brands Chop sauce instead of HP. Hendersons relish rather than Lea and Perrin. And always YORKSHIRE TEA."
+1 Yorkshire Tea Gold. Marvellous stuff.
Own brand for most stuff except meat, sauce, coffee. Unless I feel like splurging. I barely notice the difference although my palette is not as refined as other peoples. |

I tend to buy own brand, it's probably made in the same factory as the branded anyway and just packaged differently.
I tend to buy tea and coffee from poundstretchers though, cos its cheaper than own brand. |

Bread, I usually buy the own brand as I find warburtons sticks to the roof of your mouth and well the stores have the thickest bread so it's the only choice.
Beans- got to be crosse &blackwell
Sweetcorn- any brand
Guess it depends on the product |

Lidl chocolate digestives are even packaged very similarly to McVities and I can't really tell the difference |

"Heinz Spaghetti hoops
Hellman's mayo
Lea & Perrins Worcester sauce
Tesco's own marmite is good
I prefer Aldi's rich teas
"
Rich Tea's are like unicorns now. To find the fingers in a decent sized packet, got more chance of finding rocking horse shit
Got to love the warm wet saturated fingers when they come out though |

I tend to be brand specific with sauces mainly: Heinz salad cream and tomato sauce; H.P. sauce and Branston pickle. Do prefer Aldi over the main stores for my fresh fruit and veg as there's always seems so much better quality from my experience. |

Some stuff I prefer the branded, other stuff I prefer the supermarket own brand, other stuff I couldn't give a stuff... shopping is about stuffing my trolly with a range of stuff to take home and stuff myself with...
