Until I see it I guess it's difficult to give an opinion but I can already imagine what it'll be like - lots of Flag-waving heroics from All-American boys. I expect I'll end up watching it whilst munching through some popcorn annoying everyone near me in t'cinema |

As far as I understand it from various movie news sources. They're only in preliminary discussions, and that Tom Cruise has said a soft yes to start those discussions. There's no screenplay, no script, no agreement in place with the DOD to utilise military aircraft (Jerry Bruckheimer has stated he refuses to go CGI with jets) so that'll be a huge hurdle to overcome.
The likelihood of a 2017 release is essentially zero I'd say, and I'm a huge fan of the original movie. |

I liked her more in Witness. Not the most convincing dogfight expert though. I feel a Google search is in order.
I enjoyed Top Gun mainly for watching whatsername as Goose's wife...
So, Tom Cruise would be the grizzled veteran, yes? |

Yeah. For a 2017 release date they should have already wrapped filming. However like you said they haven't even got a script of anything yet. Even if they greenlit the movie tomorrow, your still looking at a few months to do the script, then a month or so of pre production, then around 6 months (give or take a month ir 2) to actually shoot the movie, then another few months of post production. So even if it was green lit tomorrow it still wouldn't be released until early 2019 at the earliest. |

The scooters will be chromed and painted in stars and stripes like the bikes in Easy Rider, Born to be Wild in the rec room, and the inmates doing drill exercises chanting Yoo Ess Hay Yoo Ess Hay like a demented manic Ryder Cup crowd.  |

Last I read, theyre struggling to come up with a viable story, as fighter jets aren't used that much in combat, just bomb dropping, the original was about dog fighting, but modern day warfare doesn't do that, unless of course they dream up some unrealistic scenario? |
