Question about cars with a start/stop button

Morning gang,
so beep beep has arrived and I'm totally in  but I have a question. If I forget to lock the car what's stopping someone getting in it depressing the clutch n pressing the start button and then buggering off with it? Are there any safety things? Do the keys have to be inside the car before it will start despite it being a keyless ignition?

yes the keys have to be in or very near the car for it to start.
You will soon learn to stop leaving them in the car as you get used to not taking them from the ignition.....! My wife just leaves the keys in her handbag. Seems to work for her!! |

Dpending on the type you can get a fair bit of range.
On my brothers car i found when hes in his front room its sufficently close to move it into his neighbours drive  |

If you look on YouTube there are ways to bypass any car alarm using the obd2 port. There have been a lot of high value cars being stolen using this method, so new alarm systems are being fired that deactivate the obd2 port. As far as i know it only affects cars with a start/stop button. |

One of the simplest fixes to this is to get a spare plug and socket foe the port, then depin and randomly rewire your port and use the socket/plug and a few inches of wire to make an adaptor that goes into your port and reroutes the now jumbled pins to thier correct location.
Anyone trying to plug anything into uour port will find thier device useless at best and fried at worst.
You can use your little adaptor whenever you need it used by a garage etc |

If I drift too far from mine with the engine on and the keys in my person, it beeps horrendously at me.
It's quite sensitive and doesn't pick up the key depending on where it is so won't let me open it or drive off.

I'm just getting used to having to put my foot on the clutch to start up hubby's car.... 
Oh and remembering where reverse is
Talulha on the other hand is a dream.

If you walk away with the keys while it is running it will stay running."
So don't put your keys in your handbag, and your handbag on the drive! and if you do don't stop until you have driven home and picked up your handbag  |
