...what was your favourite childhood book? And do you still read it?
Mine was The Hobbit. And yes, I still read the same copy. Its' pages are brown and musty. The spine is well-worn. I love it! |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
The very first book I bought from the Puffin Book Club, with my own saved pennies was Flat Stanley.
Pride and Prejudice was and is my favourite book as a child and I still read the same copy.
The Wizard of Earthsea led me into fantasy and kept me busy for 40 years.

I've only ever read 1 book in my life but it was so good I read it cover to cover in 5 days. It was somebody's life story that mirrored my own so much it was uncanny. Shame I can't remember what the fuck it was called |

I also loved The Hobbit - still do! I feel aggrieved that neither of my children have ever shown any interest in reading it despite my recommendation.
But I was also pretty obsessed with The Little House on the Prairie series of books. I've got a box set, though not my originals, that I've read again a few times as an adult. |

"First book I really got into was "The Silver Sword" by Ian Serraileur.
Classic wartime story, still vivid in my mind despite reading it for first time on 1965, just those few years ago. "

A few years ago I ordered a copy for my young son |

"I loved The Famous Five...I rather envied George."
Another one here for The Famous Five. I don't really remember reading much else. In fact, the only real memories I have of reading children's books is to my own kids and one of my favourites was My Naughty Little Sister. |

My first was Five go to Smuggler's Top, Enid Blyton. I read it again recently, superb.
As a teen I read I Robot, Issac Asimov, also a super read.

Famous five, secret seven, Lone Pine series, hardy boys & Nancy Drew... Then on holiday I picked up a dick Francis, Ian Fleming and an adult Roald Dahl.... I was about 10.. Then the Simarillion before Lord of the rings and the hobbit.
I still have all of my childhood books on a large bookcase made by my grandfather |

George's Marvellous Medicine, still my favourite Dahl. I love how the protagonist is a young boy whose whole plan is to murder his grandma and gets rich off of it!
Then when I was 9 or 10 I found a copy of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13 & 3/4 in the school library and fell in love. I own every book in the series to this day and read them all multiple times |
