How many languages do you speak?
Jump to: Newest in thread
One.
But I can count to 10 in French, German, Spanish, Norwegian.
I can ask if you're on holiday, or if you have a car in Norwegian.
And I know a few words and phrases in Greek, and I understand more than I can speak, somehow.. |

I'm working on English.
Marc can speak English, French, and Russian and is passable in Spanish and Italian. I'm trying to convince him to learn Mandarin or Arabic next. |

I can muddle through reasonably well in French and to a lesser degree in German, and there was a time in the distant past when I could readily transcribe English using the International Phonetic Alphabet (i.e. the symbols you see in brackets after a word in the dictionary showing how it's pronounced) and vice versa. I used to be able to translate Egyptian hieroglyphics too after a fashion. Not that there's been much call for those skills since graduating funnily enough |

Reminds me of Clockwise (I think that was the film with John Cleese) where she loved him talking in foreign languages as they made out.
Can see why it would do that to someone.
Doesn't even matter what you say!

Ayep, although it's not as common a phrase as is associated with Scotland particularly in Glasgow, gets more common the further up north you travel, I think Slumdog Millionaire over emphasised it. |

Agreed. Although late night forum surfing has been the cause of a lot of my attempts at talking in that language.
I could be lapsing into it here.
It's one of those languages that you accidentally use without knowing

What do they say...mix with it and it rubs off. It can apply to those we meet as well unfortunately...but that's going off the OP. Maybe for another time.

Only 75 million people use it!
You would think I'd heard of it.
Need to swot up on geographical locations and languages.
My A level geography came in really useful there |
