That's a long time for giving up anything worthwhile...
I might try giving up listening to my boss, and he might give up employing me...it could well be time for a change |

I admire people who genuinely use it as a time for reflection, fasting and giving though."
not religious here but the eldest child is and just something me and the kids have done each year - we have done random silly stuff too like no odd socks (kid was useless at pairing up ) |

I think its useful to have a point in the year when you reassess .
A Muslim friend of mine doesn't really practice the faith but he tries to keep Ramadan for the same reason |

I think there is a reason every religion has an annual fast/re-evaluation period. People have taken it into secular life in different ways.
