it will be a bonus point win for england easily.....
the most interesting question today from a technical view may well just be how good are england in the scrum... because that about the only place italy may give them a game...... |

One of the nice things of this very competitive tournament is how hard this makes Lions selection in almost every position. About the only name I would say sewn on to a starting Test shirt is Hogg at fullback. Everywhere else, options abound.
Hogg
May or Visser
Daly
Henshaw (NB, I doubt this cntre pariong will be picked, I'd just love to see it - I fear Daly's versatility mean it's the bench for him)
Zebo or Williams
Sexton or Russell
Murray or Youngs
Marler
Best or Owens
Furlong
Launchberry or Gray or Toner
Jones (AW) or other Gray or Itoje
Stander or Warburton or Barclay
Tipuric or O'Brien
Moriarty or Heaslip |

Think the English lads had worked it out at the end as clearing the tacklers out leaves a massive hole up the middle if the Italians are going to step away once the tackle is made.
Hopefully we will see a different game in the second half. We also need to manage the ball better. |

oooh.. more lions talk....
i think we agree that at the moment hogg is your 15.... i think all the other 15's haven't played badly so it will be interesting how take based on versatility of covering other positions.. ie mike brown can also play wing, hogg can play wing and 10
the only other person i have nailed in is sexton at 10.. although finn russell did himself no damage in the game yesterday and gets himself on the plane.....
i think there are some interesting questions....
where do you play farrell?
where do you play itoje?
how many scots go on the plane?
what do you do with the english players playing in france (i do think you have to consider steffon armitage at toulon and nick abendanon at clermont)
i would love to be a fly on the wall in the selection meeting when they discuss 2nd rowers and back rowers to go on the plane.... because there are going to be some world class players left out.....
my starting test XV at the moment would be
1) furlong (ireland)
2) Best (ireland)
3) Marler (England)
4) Richie Gray (Scotland)
5) Itoje (England)
6) C J Stander (Ireland)
7) Tiperic (wales)
8) Billy Vinopula (england)
9) Murray (ireland)
10) Sexton (ireland)
11) Watson (england)
12) Farrell (england)
13) Joseph (england)
14) North (wales)
15) Hogg (scotland)
6 englishman, 5 irishmen, 2 welsh, 2 scottish....
there are a few player there are unlucky to be left out... henshaw at 12, just because you have kicking options all over the place and they can't then just target sexton.....
if W P Nell is fit in time... he goes on the plane, if laidlaw is fit in time he goes on the plane for me... |

i knew i had heard of it before but never seen it in action so i went rumaging round the internet... that is conor o shea genius...
you obviously couldn't do that for a full game... but mixing it in once of twice is going to throw people... just when the forwards don't contest a maul at a line out and they get caught out for "truck and trailer"
i love the reaction of poite when haskell asked him what he should do.... to which was rightly know the law ask your coach!!! |

"I have to say last night's game was one of the best I've watched in a long time. Looking forward to the Calcutta Cup later #weartherose. "
Agreed, last night was amazing. The atmosphere in the stadium translates to the TV perfectly. You could hear the force of the tackles. The ref was largely anonymous which is always a good thing. And to cap it all, a great result from an England fans perspective.
Roll on later. |

I love the stadium when the roof is closed. Magical place.
Last game I saw was when we played the All Blacks. Took the lead and the place exploded. |

It's the only UK 6 nations stadium I haven't been to. Scandalous really, as I love watching games played there. |

As long as England win, I'm not ass'd about the score line. But your Italy/France score is out the window, France are wining 26-11 after 55mins lol |

its the typical "italy play well for 50 minutes" preformance......
its what i am expecting in the scotland england game..... the scots will give england a game for 60 minutes... but england will have too much coming off the bench... |

Yes, for me...the toe was on the ground but the rotation of the foot in the tackle lifted it again. I awarded that one from my armchair |

I have to say I'm surprised at how poor the Scots have been in that first half. I was hoping for more of a test of the English defence.
Jonathan Joseph has been scintillating, we've moved the ball with speed and precision. I now fear for Scotland in the second half. |

I reckon that first yellow card had just taken the stuffing out of the scots
And England have made none of the mistakes that they have in pervious matches |

Any Scotsmen left on the pitch ?
After the battering from France and now this, they'll have to rebuild the whole squad |

They probably missed Laidlaw being there to rally them round, great game though, thoroughly enjoyed watching that |

I feel for them a bit. They picked up a freakish amount of injuries. Totally disrupting any plans and hopes. It was damage limitation from 20minutes onwards.
Bring on next weekend and wrapping up the Grand Slam. |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big)
Well that was the best game you'll see England play
Compared to how they struggled in earlier matches that was world's apart |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big)
Really enjoyed that... shame about Scotland's injuries. I hope that they're all fit for the next match. |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big)
Scotland did have some injuries yes but were lucky to still have 15 on the pitch after the tip tackle..
that they kept coming and did not roll over is a positive sign..
good win by England.. |

its a shame... with all the injuries scotland just didn't show up today......
anyway.... nothing ireland will like more than to stop the winning streak at 18..... just like they did with the kiwi's last autumn in chicago........

Really can't see that happening as much as I'dlike them too. England have too much to gain from winning and their bench is pretty awesome.
I'd stick my neck out and say they feel they could give all the southern hemisphere teams a run for their money.
England have just got into their stride.
Ireland performance in beating NZ isn't something they will be repeating too soon no matter how much patriotic enthusiasm takes over. It's just not going to happen unless there's a few yellow cards or a red card for them. |

Scotland, by a small margin...heavy hitting game, odd twists either side.
Wales, a smooth exciting game with some good plays. Could be a high scoring game.
England, long periods of drought punctuated by a couple scores as both go defensive for extended possession. |
