Do you think people grow into their names?
Do certain names tend to come with a certain personality trait?
My youngest has a very distinctive name and for the last couple of days has really lived up to it in many ways, I'm starting to wish I'd picked a calm gentle name |

Yes and some names I don't like as they're synonymous with someone from the past.
I think you form a mental impression of a person from their first name. |

"You mean first names or nicknames? "
Well nicknames tend to stem from your personality but given names (first and surname) you don't really get a say in. |

I always wanted to be a harlot from 15th century France..."
Wasn't a harlot basically a gypsy type lifestyle back then with sexual undertones. Not the modern ''whore' type definition? As opposed to a haricot, which is just a bean
Forgive me, I'm on painkillers. |

Oh, I'm pretty sure being a harlot was very sexy back then. It's evolved into a term of disdain in some ways, but back then was not quite a compliment, but definitely not an insult. More a term of appreciation of your pursuit of pleasure. |

I changed my name legally about 16 years and have given this topic some serious thought over the years.
My birth name was stereotypically nerdy and I think I was subconsciously placed in the nerd box by everyone I met. As that was the box I was growing in, that was the person I grew into.
My new name is much less nerdy (but still not mainstream) and everyone I've met since the name change can't picture me being my old name. I feel my new name suits me much more and has allowed me to grow beyond the confines of my old.
Most of this is probably nonsense and perhaps I could have led the life I lead now under my old name. Who knows! |

Interesting OP.
Long time ago, in my society, parents will change their child's name if the child get sick all the time.
The elderly said the baby can't carry the name given hence the need to change it.
It's not being practiced as much anymore now. |

Names with clear meanings can end up being self fulfilling prophecies or something the person has to live up to or live down. I think they can divert people from their true calling or path. Names should be pleasant but also quite neutral. |
