The mind boggles!
Been on the hunt for a new car, currently paying £1400 on a 1.8 140bhp Civic.
Viewed a 2.0 200bhp type R FN2 Civic today - £1000 to insure.
Will be looking at the new type R - 2.0 310bhp...£600 to insure
Weird and wonderful things
Now you can all break my heart and tell me about your cheap insurance |

Whoever said insurance drops at 25 is a lier!
I've never had a significant decrease on the same car as I've got older. Had my current Civic nearly 4 years |

if your the only named driver on the insurance and you can put a spouse or parent on it even if they never drive your car you will see a decrease of £50 - £100 |

"if your the only named driver on the insurance and you can put a spouse or parent on it even if they never drive your car you will see a decrease of £50 - £100"
I've got both parents named...brings it down significantly.
It's kind of annoying such a powerful expensive car is less than half what I pay on a distinctly average car |

I haven't looked what mine is on expensive cars as there is no need, but most of the cars I was looking at were £400-500 fully comp even though some were quadruple the price tag of others.
This is with 0 no claims as I didn't drive for several years.
There isn't ever a hugh drop - it just slows descends.
I'm with AXA too FYI.

Stopping with the same insurance company doesn't pay any more these days .I change my company every year now to get the best deal .they all seem to favour new customers .loyalty went out the window long ago .I'm changing again this year found someone offering 140 less than my current insurer |

Tried that and failed miserably
Wouldn't get anywhere near other quotes. So I'll be leaving once I switch cars |

Was having a little fuck about on the weekend and toying with the idea of buying 2 cars, 1 Suzuki alto, not even 1 litre and having insurance on that using zero no claims bonus and building up from scratch on that, they wanted 532 quid for the year. Then wanted to buy back my 56 plate Nissan 350Z (car I sold when I was pregnant!) for social use only and using 8 years no claims (I lost mine in 2009) they wanted 611 quid for the year! |

Makes a huge difference where you live and where your car is kept. Having moved twice last year my insurance jumped down 70 quid for the year then went way back up. I've just taken a new policy in September for about 500 for the year on a 1.2 clio...my last car was written off in a fire so I lost 2 years NCB. I was paying less than 300 annually on my last car. |

The way they see it is the higher the value the more sensible you will drive it so not to wreck it.
When I had my Jzx100 it was 850 a year fully comp but a new Nissan Gtr was only 650. |

It doesn't work like that.
If you crash a £100K car, the insurance company has a six figure problem on their hands.
That's what they're considering when they quote you. |

Just going by what the Aviva guy told me when I asked for the Gtr quote and queried the cheap price. |

Just drive without, the car drives just as well and it's much cheaper.
I'm only joking people, pay your car insurance. I'm with O2, yes the phone company. When I got it I said I didn't even know you did car insurance, they replied that not many people did. When my old insurance company called to give me a quote I said that I had got a cheaper quote from O2 they said "what? The phone company?" when arranging it I told them I had an O2 phone and asked if that meant I got it any cheaper and they said no. |

its due to the area that you live in.
As dosnt help being one of the highest areas for cars going missing or for cars used in insurance claims |

"Focus ST renewal last year was £239 that's cause it's slow
£270 for my BMW135i 326BHP running through those rear wheels, leaves the ST for dust "
More like employment, driving record, postcode etc as insurance companies dont take into account whether or not the car will be left for dust buy BMW135 drivers...as their more of a risk to insurance companies for wanting to race and cause more accidents |

"Landrover 110. £90 a year fully comp.
I pay £160 on my 90 but it's a V8 auto, soft top with loads of mods...and that's up £30 on last year..."
Still not bad is it. Mine is fairly well modded with 4 litre Engine and stuff. My Bedford MJ truck is only £100 a year fully comp too. |

You're absolutely right!
I'd been told this when I was younger, but I never noticed a drop in my insurance when I turned 25.
I did, however, get a discount when I passed my Advanced Driving Test, though I should state that this is only relevant to those insurers who offer such a discount.
Currently I'm paying less than £200 to insure my 21 year old 3.8 litre American Sports car.
Conversely though, I'm paying around twice that for a 6 year old 1.4 litre Toyota Yaris - though it has to be said that I use my no claims on the Firebird, and started the Yaris off on a new policy last year without any No Claims, so should go down quite a bit on renewal. |

After a fair bit of pissing around, I've had to stay with my current insurer as they're the only ones who will cover power increase modifications.
£1400 on a type R isn't too bad compared to what I've payed in the past I was paying £2000 on a 1.6 Peugeot!
Thinking a tracker or immobiliser might help bring it down. |

Took my M3 down by 350 but had to have pro install with certificate of proof that it was Thatcham class 1 and properly fitted. |

Hull |
Insurers used to also look at drivers occupations when providing quotes. When I was a Licensee, even if I didn't use my car for business but for personal use only, they'd err on the possibility that business use would feature, and raise the quote!
Postcodes too feature on deciding a quote. However, a tip to help you. Try NFM. They don't just cover farms, farmers & agricultural equipment etc.
Up here in Hull, they quoted for me a few years ago. Normally with other insurers, as
soon as I mentioned my postcode, you could almost hear the costs adding up.
But NFM are different. With a local office, their people knew my postcode covered a large area, with some sections not affected by the criminal elements elsewhere within my postcode. Thus, they could tailor the quote, with considerable savings to be made.
People I have recommended this to, in subsequent years have found this has worked for them too. |

That's who I'm with.
Been with them on my old civic and mods wise they couldn't care less as far as the audio was concerned which is why I went with them originally. |
