I'm wondering if I can add a couple of 90° bends to the boiler flue in order to slightly redirect it? The boiler is in a large cupboard on the 1st floor and the flue goes up into the attic, wiggles around a bit, then terminates out through the roof. I want to put a loft hatch in the cupboard but the flue needs to be adjusted ever so slightly first. Obviously it'll begin and end in the same locations, I just want to re-wiggle the wiggles.

Cheers

Nell

Essex.

Far from being an expert, I know with wood burner flues you can have two 45° bends at most...

I would think gas boilers would be the same...

I am sure your gas company could tell you...

Thanks, I suspected the 90° was a no-no. I've not phoned the boiler people yet as I wanted some impartial advice first.

It all depends on the make and type of boiler. Each boiler manufacturer will recommend a maximum length of flue and each bend will reduce the maximum length by around 1 mtr

It would be best to consult the manufacturers guidelines and speak to a gas safe engineer. Our boiler has 2 45 degree bends and a run of 4mtrs and is still within the recommended length.

You can get a Flexi-bend flue liner that would probably suffice, but as has been said, best to let a Gas Safe engineer install and give you a certificate of worthiness. I have installed a few of these in the past and they are perfect for the purpose that you describe.
