And we keep plodding on

Just going online to book a place in the Rhyl 10 mile for the end of March

Lovely and flat, but I hope the wind isn't blowing as it's very exposed down the prom

Lovely run this morning. No plan for distance, time, pace etc so just went with the flow. 14.5 good miles and even saw a couple of deer while running through a forest.

Endorphins a go go now

The dog's lying on the sofa, twitching his eyebrows as if to say "You want me to do what ? " (10 miles today)

I think I'll leave him behind, and just go for a long beach walk with him this afternoon instead

It's weird. Very difficult to judge where you are on the course as it's constantly changing direction. One of the best organised I've done but strangely underwhelming possibly due to walk back to the car park and how long it takes to get out of them.

Know exactly what you two mean

I went to the gym yesterday, for the first time in years, and feeling it this morning.

No injury ever resolved by training through it. Think long and hard before doing a long run as a niggle may become a whole lot more serious

This I was impatient after a partial cruciate ligament tear and ended up doing so much more damage which has resulted in a year off. I still can only manage half the distance I used to

As with Evie, you've got to give it time. The last thing you want to do is go through the route of cortisone shots

How lucky that I'm off today and my dad has a sports massage guy come to his house just now!

Picked his brains about my knee and he said I'm OK to rub but just so stretches and ice afterwards but obviously of it gets worse then need to stop and speak to him again.

Also booked a massage for the Tuesday after the marathon and been told to have an ice bath if I can on the day.

You say that and when you finish you'll say that.

24 hours later you'll think 'maybe'

24 hours after that you'll be pondering whether you could have gone quicker and convincing yourself you could.

You're on the slippery slope to number 2 then

In my experience the best thing to do to help recovery is keep moving after you've finished. Walking (or shufling) loosens the legs up

Rest is key when you are aiming at a marathon.

I end up binge running at the moment. Very little in the week and then a big one Sunday morning

Indeed, I've changed my schedule as I'm pissed off running alone, so changed my days for club nights for the easier shorter runs. I'm just off 4 days of running, so am pleased but sad in equal measures....lol

I've got a 100 mile monthly target in my sights so have got a bit carried away tbh......so Sunday long run it is...

Did a 8 mile run (was going to be 10 miles) on Sunday and my knee, which had been giving me some slight pain earlier in the week, seriously started to hurt at mile 6 so stopped at 8 and really struggled to walk home.

It's now Thursday I have slight pain and stiffness but the question is, do I enter the Liverpool Half Marathon as planned (done it since 2010) ?

I hope I can start running again soon but conflicted

And yes followed RICE since Sunday

If you can do 8 miles now then 13.1 should be ok. You can afford to give it another week or two of rest and maybe do some other sort of cardio if you can or try some pool running

Although we planned (I was running with some club members) to do 10 miles the intention was to extend to 11 or even 12 dependent on how we were feeling.

Thanks for the advice, I have managed to rest a lot this week and a bit more optimistic about maybe getting out for another run a week Sunday, when I'll have to make the decision.

Well done, I did the same last year with my HM times, desperately wanted to get under 2 hours, even on one occasion (Liverpool HM) 2 hours exactly..gutted. Then last year at the Bolton half 1hour 56 (still smiling now)

Do we as Runners keep moving the goal posts as I am now wanting to knock off 7 minutes for a sub 1hr 50 ?

Also desperate to do a sub 50 for my 10k currently 51.36 (more achievable)

Injuries stopped my progress recently.

Haha that was my target......my first ever 13.1 miles was 2:00:53 (emblazoned on my memory) on a tough training run, so assumed that in a race I'd improve on that........erm nope.......I've run 11 official races and now a few more training distances and at last broke the 2 hours barrier (I ran 1:53:53) so was well chuffed. I am setting no more time targets haha..!

ps if I'd done 2 hours dead for my PB when chasing sub 2, I think I would have retired in disgust...!

And the encouragement given it's not only Runners that deserve a medal, I mean it as well I ran Liverpool Half one year it was pouring down with rain, perfect for me but I didn't half feel sorry for the Volunteers handing out a water. I intend to give back and volunteer (maybe this year, due to injury) myself.

Thanks for being there, no race without you

My plan is to stretch it by just 1km every week until I've got the 1/2 marathon distance in, in 5 weeks time.

Eleven weeks until Chester on the 21st May, so that'll see my training through, as well as my weekly interval work

Not a good day for Vitality branded events. They ran out of medals at Bath yesterday and it's finally coming out that Brighton half is short!

For an organisation that are far from cheap pretty piss poor to screw up on the basics

I managed parkrun on Saturday after 4 weeks on the injury bench. Took it easy and ran round with my girlfriend who lulled me in to a false sense of security by promising not to sprint. And them taking me in the sprint!

Did 9 this morning in 1hr 38. This is my 1st race and to say I was a couch potato and couldn't run for a bus 8 weeks ago is an understatement I'm nervously excited about the day but if get to 11 miles before the day I will be happy and as you say the crowds can carry you home.

I never followed a running program in 9yrs of doing the GNR. I think one year I did 10 or 15k once about month before the race. Hate running!!!!! Love the GNR on my my good years I was just "gym fit" and rocked up and did it. This year will be my 10th consecutive! Aiming for 2hrs10 (7mins faster than my PB). And nope still not "run" training.

You shouldn't really need to carb load for a half marathon.

Your body is not really going to go into deprivation over that distance.

Just fluids, and maybe gels if you need them, on the day

Don't mess about with breakfast in the day.

Keep it simple. Toast and peanut butter, a banana perhaps.

Otherwise you'll get a bad stomach and end up looking for toilets along the way

Oh, and make good use of the toilets before you start. You'll be peeing like a horse

London Landmarks has an amazing course compared to any other half in London, and arguably the country. Starts outside buckingham place, trafalgar square, St Pauls, Bank of England, Tower of London, House of Parliament, Finishes outside Downing Street. These are world fmaous iconic landmarks

Also its organised by Tommy's charity as a fund raiser rather than a commercial organsation which sits comfortable with me. They seem to be putting a lot of effort in to making it something special. I;m entering it

"London Landmarks has an amazing course compared to any other half in London, and arguably the country.

Checked it out, looks good and goes to a very worthy cause. I may well do it too

Sold out within half an hour! "

Within 6 minutes I heard!

I've not planned much in after Sunday... Got a 10k in Market Drayton in may but want to just try and run for fun for a bit (although I'm sure the bling will drag me in lol)

Off to the expo today to collect my number!!!

I do loads of relatively low key local events. In many ways I prefer them to the larger more commercial events

I left it a over a week after my first couple. Just a few gentle walks is my recommendation

Good. I know a couple of people who went out and did a half the weekend after and set PBs.

I just wanted to be able to handle stairs

Have to say I am so happy that I didn't run a marathon this spring, watching them and not having had the pressure of winter training is just what my mojo needed.

Brighton marathon gave me one of my fondest running memories when I ran a few hundred metres with a friend running her first in part due to my encouragement while she cried her eyes out in a mix of excitement and happiness realising that she was going to do it.

And London was just amazing. Setting up a charity cheering spot with banners and flags was such a rewarding experience. Think we managed to cheer almost all of the charity's 150 runners and seeing the lift they got was brilliant. And of course seeing so many of my friends out there was pretty ace.

So I need to PB chase, tge only decision is whether it will be Nottingham or Brum!

One mile is only 1600 paces

Just relax and enjoy the music

I always do the fun run with the littleuns before the main race, when I can. It's a great feeling to cross the line with them, though my daughter is faster than me now
