Super slimmers - did they really keep the weight off? Channel 4

That's the main message Naughty from the show and research, that it's incredibly difficult to maintain the lower weight, due to hormonal changes etc, that someone above has mentioned. |

At least this programme has actual science debunking the 'just eat less' argument can't wait to tell all the self righteous fab web md's on here who pop up with that garbage on every weight loss thread. |

It is hard
I joined slimming world about three year ago and lost just over 8 stone, got to my goal and within a few weeks it slowly started creeping back on, I re joined last August and had put 7 stone of that back on, I got my 6 and a half stone award this week and have 8lb left to get back to my goal, I don't find dieting that hard I've yo yoed all my life but when I get to a weight I'm comfortable with I struggle to say there |

I thought it was interesting, the ones that kept the weight off were the ones that exercised daily. The PT guy looked amazing after getting to grips with what his food triggers are. |

I lost weight and kept it off, using the very boring "calories in, calories out" thing.
The thing to remember is that your body is not a bomb calorimiter and you need to adjust your calorie allowance according to what foods you actually eat and how fas you are losing weight eating them (if that makes sense).
I think what a lot of people do when they hit a weight loss goal, is immediately "relax" and start to take in far more calories than they realise in little treats and whatnot.
Yes, your body does fight weight loss at the lower bodyfat percentages to an extent, but if you reverse diet slowly out of your defecit it seems to work.
Case in point: I now bulk and cut because of lifting and I know that it takes more calories for me to gain weight than it used to.
Also, I find it hard to bulk any further when I'm in about a 32" trouser, I seem to inadvertently miss eating food because busy or whatver.
This coming from a bloke who was (for several years of my adult life) a 38" trouser and a good 4 stone heavier than I am now at my heaviest.
Obviously this is only what has worked for me, but you will find if you look at the forums on myfitnesspal, for example lots of people who it has worked for too. |

The best diet is the one you can stick to. Remeber that you are the sum of everything you do.
If you weigh 100kgs but want to be 80 kgs, you can go to the gym, eat right reach your goal, then go back to your old habits you had as your 100kg self and put it all back on. Long term habit change is the only truly effective way to long term weight loss. |

You're inspirational Naughty. I hope that you sustain the weight that you want.
I've been skinny, overweight and lost but my natural drive now is to gain easily - it's a really hard fight. |

You don't "go on" a diet, you have a diet. If you changed your diet and lost weight, why/how did you change it when you'd lost weight? |

This really highlights how stupid people are.
Thought process;
I've over eaten for years and am now fat.
I'll under eat for a few months
yay i have lost a lot of weight.
I'm going to over eat againn till im fat then say dieting doesn't work
Cause you know logic...
Lets say your ideal body weight can be represented as the number 100
every day you naturaly burn 5
so each day you - 5 from your number.
That means to stay 100 you need to consume 5 a day.
Not consume 10 a day till you reach 200, then consume 1 and burn an extra -6 a day till you're 90 then go bsck to eating 10 a day |

One thing youve got to remeber is once you lose that 8 stone you now have 8 stone less tissue to keep alive.
So you need to redo your BMR calcs as you need less to just live.
If youre still doing your baseline/bmr from your "fat" weight you will inevitibly be over eating |

I wanted to watch this. I'll watch it in catch up.
The way it's always been taught to me is a fat cell is like a balloon that is basically full of fat, the fatter you get the more fat cells you create, you can lose weight and empty the fat cells but they'll still be there, they'll still be like empty balloons ready to be filled with fat again. The ONLY way you can remove fat cells from your body is liposuction. You can lose weight but won't eat rid of the extra fat cells that were created by the weight gain. |

The programme reinforced all diets will work for the short term. To maintain the weight loss on these diets exercise was crucial, proper daily exercise as opposed to an hours aerobics twice a week for example.
The more dramatic the weight loss the more weight is gained when the diet isn't stuck too, you move onto the next diet to see if that works better and so the cycle continues. |

This is because people look at it wrong it is not "a diet" for a set period of timethat you then finish
It's YOUR DIET for the rest of your life.
You cant restrict calories lose weight then go right back to eating a surplus of calories and expect to not gain weight.
Thats exactly how they got fat in the first place.
Repeating things and expecting differnt outcomes and all that.
Exercise though is very poor for weight loss can eat in 5 mins more than you can burn off in 5 solid hours. |
