"mine only charges £30 for 5 items. electrical goods are free."
£10 for 3 items with my council. No free stuff though.
We regularly get trolleys full of stuff on our green, and bags left by the bus stop. |

I can't take the works van to the local tip without getting a permit which takes 3 days and then expires after a certain time span. Then you can only visit so many times a year with that registration. So I can see why some fly tip.
We had a kitchen replaced, the joiner couldn't use his van and skips are silly money. Took me 5 trips in the car with the back seat down to clear the rubbish. |

There is no excuse for fly tipping, If you cant take it the tip call someone out or keep it until you have the time/money to dispose of it the correct way, We all pay in the end for their lazy attitude |

"It's the same with a trailer. We loaded our trailer with garden junk, drove to the tip, to be turned away, told to get a permit.
Madness."
same here but also because oversized to a normal trailer only allowed so many trips to the tip with it per year
there also tipping in peoples gardens as well council dont want to know |

Our local council require you to register your registration, then your number plate is recorded so you can tip, I seem to recall it's slightly different for vans, or vehicles with a business advertised on them. We have an incinerator in the garden and try to get rid of as much as possible in that. |

The thing that rankles me is what the hell do I pay so much council tax for! When council tips are charging rate payers to take their rubbish to a designated tip.
I totally get the car and trailer bit to stop commercial tipping...but bloody hell we don't get much for our council tax. |

That's a whole different thread... adult social care comes out of council tax, amongst other things. You may not get it but it is going somewhere.

Fair point but I still think this is wrong and whilst people say there is no excuse for fly tipping....I seen it coming ages ago when they started charging....and I do not condone it but I know human nature |

I believe the clamp down going to the tip was due to, for example, a landscaping garden business going in and filling the green waste skip up with hedges. So the, "Skip Closed" sign went up and all the householders couldn't tip until the skip was replaced.
Here's the daft thing. Say you owned a bakery and had a van sign written, "Dave's Bakery". If you went down with an armchair to dispose of, they won't let you because you're in a commercial vehicle and it's classed as trade waste. But Dave's Bakery would have old pies etc.. as trade waste but not an armchair from his house. So you would have to wedge it in your car, or get a permit, or pay to get it picked up and due to the sheer hassle, some people will fly tip it in a lay-by. |

"A single axle trailer is fine. I had an Erde one for garden rubbish and that was ok. I heard double axle trailers needed a permit."
Yes that seems to be the case in double axle trailers...which is one I can partially agree with it can be used commercially. My gripe is household rubbish/gardening/old furniture from your taxed paid on home....being charged for again.
As I have said human nature will find away around this and the most likely solution will be to fly tip it.

If a pair of breeding fruit flies were able to reproduce at their natural rate, free from constraints of food or predators, the resulting mass of flies would be the size of the Earth after just one year.

I think the main reason is the austerity measures that have lead to councils being screwed to make these charges... Hence something will always give |

Well no, you don't, because you're not an elderly or vulnerable adult needing social care, or a looked after child. Educate yourself about what council tax funds. |

I can't stand fly tipping. Unfortunately my house is at the end of the road and guess where everyone's shit goes?
Me and my sister have no issues taking stuff down to the household waste and recycling centre. Also the council here will allow you to chuck stuff out and come and collect it twice a year free of charge. I don't see why people cannot use this service and instead litter my front door ... it's annoying!! We have also ordered skips on three occasions and before we could fill them up other people's crap made its way in there somehow. Had some bloody random sofas. Worst part is some of the people doing it are actually family friends and get annoyed when you say something. |

To be fair our Council do a pretty good job with waste all round. We also have a volunteer workforce that keeps the Town clean too. Pretty good |

I'm not arguing about social care as this has also been cut to the bone....but it should not be the be all and end all. A lot of what were free services have been stopped but they were paid for out of your council tax,and the social care is a disgrace to how it impacts on society and the NHS....but you cannot just discount this problem and use another to justify one....the biggest problem is the austerity measures that are being put on the councils.

Of course. But people always seem to be under this misguided impression that they pay council tax for what THEY will get. "Bloody hell we don't get much for our council tax", for example.
If more people understood what exactly councils spend their money on (which is now overwhelmingly on their statutory obligations, so there is very little change for discretionary areas like waste) then maybe there might be more pressure brought to bear on the government about those austerity measures.

Given that Fly Tipping is so common and it costs Council's millions to clear it all up it seems a "No Brainer" to me to allow these people to use Council Refuse Sites free of charge!
Tradesmen in our area are charged literally hundreds of pounds to use the Council Refuse Site!
Please note that I am not condoning Fly Tipping and it is not anything that I would ever do! |

I think anyone running a business and fly tips needs the full force of the law throwing at them....they have always had to pay and so it should be.
But it was also identified in the news item tonight that councils are all increasing their charges for domestic users....so what happens....people dump their waste and it costs the council a fortune to clear up.
Utter madness |

It's likely manufactures will design stuff to have a certain shelf life to keep sales going.
Also, rather than make good, todays generation change items because of fashion. |
