Local petshop, Goldfish are quite cheap and easy to keep and you can get a complete starter kit which normally includes a couple of fish, tank, stones etc |

Firstly tropical fish or Just your average gold fish?? Tropical fish will require a heater to raise the water temperature slightly.. But if you want a regular goldfish a bowl or small tank, filter and fish is all you need plus some h2o of course.. Your local pet store should be able to help you out too |

"just coldwater fish, tropical fish kept dying on me "
There ya go then... start at the same place as you did when you had tropical fish... just you won't need the water heater.
If you don't want the fuss of the filtration and air pump, just stick to 1-2 inch of fish per square foot of water surface area. |

Dogs need walking, fish tanks need cleaning, it's a part of keeping pets that a lot of people try to forget about. I find it therapeutic to spend an hour cleaning our aquarium although if anyone has the definutive remedy for hair algae, without replacing the stones, water, and fish I'll be eternally grateful. |

Because people can. Using your mail blocks doesn't mean people can't join in threads, they just can't use the forums to contact you. |

I worked in a Pet shop so yes go along and ask for advice from them.....
Normally you will be sold a tank with filtration system etc a good 3 days in advance of the fish.....
This is to allow the ammonia and ph levels within your tank to sort themselves out before adding livestock.
Also remember when cleaning do not completely empty tank only around a third of the tank needs to be emptied before cleanng as ammonia levels rise and do harm or kill your fish......

Goldfish are actually extremely messy fish and do not fare well in tanks, they prefer a large outdoor pond to fully thrive (like, living beyond 50 years thriving) if you want something simple, small and easy, got for something like Platy or Minnows -be wary with Platy, though, get either all males or all females. They breed like crazy - and it's only cute the first time... All tanks will need adequate filtration, and you dont want to stock more than a cm of fish per litre of water (cm of the eventual FULL size) feel free to message us if you would like any advice! |
