Hi... I now have a coil (fab!) but used to use one. It takes some getting used to and can be messy to start with but yes it makes sense, comfy and convenient once you get used to it x

My friend uses one and love it too. I wasn't sure I do was ordering the right size as it wasn't clear if you're over 30 but not had children which one to get. I cut part of the stem off as it was uncomfortable but seems ok now. Will find out over the next day or so if it's for me

You can't have sex with a mooncup. It sits just inside the vagina and makes a seal

A small plastic cup to use instead of tampons or pads

Before I went on the depo injection I used a mooncup. I wish I'd discovered it earlier, once I got used to it I found it actually less messy than using a tampon.

You are right, you can't have sex with a mooncup, I've used both Beppe and Joy Division sponge tampons for that on days when I was just spotting.

I used beppy twice and both times I had to get my sub to remove it for me - short fingers really don't work with them although he might have been more than me as it wasn't him I'd been fucking both times. But hey he's my sub and he does what he's told

He could just not have been squeamish.

I have to say it probably wouldn't bother me, but then, I'm not bothered by much along those lines.

I thought about this and have put in the little bag that comes with it a lunch box type dressing container filled with water. It's a small squeeze bottle and should be enough to do in the toilet.

I've had mine for about 10 years. All that money I've saved on tampons makes me smile. They are environmentally friendly and you're less likely to get toxic shock syndrome. My period pain is lessened as well. I'm always trying to convert people. Unless they have a coil fitted. I'm pretty sure that the mooncup was to blame for dislodging mine. Happened to my friend also.

If this happens to me i just use tissue paper and a wet wipe. It does for the time being.

It amazes me they've been around that long - I've only just recently heard of them. Why do so few people know? It's like they want us to keep buying things that are bad for women and the environment for profit. Not that I'm cynical like that

I'm sure you've probably already tried this but do you need to break the suction, so get a finger up the side of it or something...rather than just pulling it?

Ive got short fingers and I can only reach the stem. I got a long stemmed spoon and put it up the side and could hear the suction going but still can't get it out. Will wait for my friend see if she'll give it a go - she's so straight and vanilla she'll be horrified at the thought!

Yes keep trying. Pulling on stem wouldn't make it move.

I have to put finger up side and break seal. Then pinch stem and pull at same time.

Takes some knack but works for me.

Practice practice

Like an old style toilet pull flush, that'll do the trick.

Sorry, I'll leave now and let the ladies sort it out with useful advice

They are tricky when you first start with them. Don't push them too far in. Fold into a kind of u to insert and slowly let go. To remove gently pinch on the base near the stalk and that will remove suction. If you are practicing when you aren't on it will be much more difficult than when you are on.

Good luck!

Nope.

You need to make sure the stem is cut short enough. And you need to make sure it is in quite deep.

They are little silicone cups that you use instead of tampons. They're better for your vaginal health and better for the planet.

There is a knack to getting them in and out. You can't just pull them out, you have to break the seal around the rim with your finger by pushing it in slightly.

Practice when you *don't* have your period. It's less slippery and less messy!

They aren't like a tampon - they don't cause problems if you put them in without your period.

It'd certainly be less slippery and messy for my straight vanilla housemate who had to fish it out yesterday and may have to again today

Practice when you *don't* have your period. It's less slippery and less messy!

They aren't like a tampon - they don't cause problems if you put them in without your period.

I just tried to see if I could release the seal and I think my fingers are definitely too short

It'd certainly be less slippery and messy for my straight vanilla housemate who had to fish it out yesterday and may have to again today "

Seriously ?

Your straight vanilla housemate had to fish it out ?

Yep - pic on my profile too pmsl!!

She was very clear that if I tried it again she wouldn't take it out again. And guess what I couldn't get it out again!! Yes my arms and fingers are officially too short to use a mooncup. This time I called my pa and said I've got a job for you, get the coffee on. Luckily she's not shocked by anything I do

In your bed

I absolutely love the mooncup and when I had a problem with it I contacted them and they were incredibly helpful. Gave me detailed advice via email and offered to refund the product was no longer suitable, even though I'd been using it for several years. I'd recommend you try email them for advice.

Oh wish I'd known - I threw it away! I may still email them but genuinely think my arms and fingers aren't long enough. Great idea though and glad so many of your ladies love it

They're fabulous devices, so simple but so clever. I used one for about 6 years before my hysterectomy and often bought them as pressies for my friends! I saved a fortune in not buying tampons for me but then spent it on other ladies. Everyone who used them loved them.

I think it helped with period pain too - maybe something to do with the muscles having something to grip.

They do take a bit of getting used to but are well worth the extra effort.
