We have been effectivly controlling our own evolution for years. Personally I beilieve that the next step in our evolution will be the creation of sentient machines, which will superseed us and then evolve at an incredable rate. We will then simply get ignored just like we ignore ants when constructing a new building.

Yes, but I also don't worry about it or feel that it will signal the instant end of us. After all the ants are still doing very well for themselves.
