"Nope, I didn't know this was a thing.....
Ketchup...... fridge or cupboard?
(Sauce (see what I did there?).....http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38907451 )"
cupboard, there is absolutely no sensible reason to keep it in the fridge. i never keep sauces in the fridge, or eggs, or butter when i buy it. Certainly not bread as also included in the report, or bananas, onions, potatoes. |

what about all these pubs like wetherspoons that serve meals and all the condiments are left out all the time?
I doubt they will want the faff of putting everything in the fridge at the end of service |

Surely everyone knows Tomatoes effectively release flavour at room temperature or above so putting Ketchup in the fridge is the folly of culinary nincompoops |

Their sauce is gonna be used a lot faster than someone's at home. So it might be out for days not weeks. |

I've actually spent today sorting out my kitchen cupboards and have 3 bin bags full of rubbish. ...mostly old frying pans and tubs with no lids and lids with no tubs |

They keep their sauces in massive tubs out the back in the kitchen not in the fridge. Or at least any food outlet I've worked in did.
Ketchup is very acidic and so has its own preserving nature to it. The fact they put refrigerate on the bottle is an ass covering thing. There is no food science based reason to do it. I never have and I haven't died yet |

It was always cupboard for me.....supermarkets have it on ambient temperature shelves.....same with eggs.
However, recently ketchups have had reduced salt....so the preservative effect is reduced. So maybe more of a case for the fridge....? |

"I keep all condiments in the fridge...they've got their own shelf
A shelf that is meant for condiments that need refrigerating."
Yeah but there's never any other food in it so I might as well fill it up with ketchup and the like. |

"I have a condiments tray that lives out on the side in the kitchen. Ketchup slots in there all nice and snug. Cold ketchup? Ew."
We may need words at our next rendezvous...
Ketchup should be stored at ambient temperatures until opened, and then stored in the fridge.
It should also only be used on chips, or in a ketchup buttie. |

"Fridge is for wine freakoids!
I have a separate fridge for vino "
Living in The North, I have a wine fridge called "just outside the back door".
The fridge functions 10 1/2 months of the year. |

Certain things go better, mayo for example has to be cold "
Mayonnaise is different as its salad condiment predominantly IE cold |

Plus the egg thingy but most Mayos are from pasturised eggs (powdered) they pose no harm |
