Hi guys,
Mrs F and I are thinking of moving to the south coast.
Various reasons behind the move, mainly for want of a more enjoyable lifestyle close to the sea.
So far Brighton and Poole are amongst the front runners, however we are open to any suggestions.
Does anyone have any advice about where would be a smart place to move? Jobs, people, surroundings are all important factors we are taking into consideration.
Love some feedback.

to answer your question, considering your ages and you're swingers, I'd say Brighton was your best bet.  |

I spent a few months in Newquay at my pals ,he's lived down there 8 years now and loves it ,the lifestyle ,pace of life etc...I nearly stayed but tbh found it to slow ...the weather nearly clinched it and the place is stunning ,again job prospects and property will more than likely sway your decision in the end ..all the best |

Poole is very, erm, geriatric. Bournemouth is the slightly better option IMO. Portsmouth and Southampton for ease of finding jobs as they are the bigger cities.
Brighton while not far away from the others feels really far away due to the lack of proper roads between brighton and portsmouth.
What kind of jobs are you looking to get? |

Hey, Brighton's very cool, but you'll get a lot more for your money by heading a few miles down the road towards Portslade or Aldrington. Pool is probably a little more picturesque, but a) nowhere near as cosmopolitan as Brighton, and b) can be even pricier. Brighton's only an hour from London too. |

Poole, Bournemouth, Sandbanks, Ferndown, Weymouth. Pretty much anywhere along the southwest coast are the best beaches within the UK. Lovely areas and lively little villages too. So relaxing to live there. I lived in Ferndown. Lovely little place 7 miles from Bournemouth, Sandbanks and Poole. Beautiful beaches and harbours. I'm moving back there within a few years. |

Wind your neck in. How rude are you! You clearly know little and nothing concerning Kent! It's not known as the garden of England for nothing! As for lack of phone signal.... lol there's nothing wrong with it! I never lose signal for starters. Just proves Kent clearly doesn't like you! There's plenty to offer and see within Kent. |

Whitstable is very up and coming. A few celebrities live there and a few big TV drama's have been filmed there also. You've named my favourite places |

I have just moved to Bournemouth from just outside Brighton.
I have found it great, love the life and waiting for the sun so I can enjoy the sandy beaches. |

Exactly I like to pop into town and park easily, preferably free! "
You need Just Park. I can't believe how I coped before I started using it. Often a lot cheaper then public car parks etc. |

We are looking to rent initially until we are happy with our location. Our preference would either be a flat in a mariner or a house very close to the sea.
This is a lifestyle choice aimed at living in nicer surroundings, I guess more tranquil than hustle and bustle. Although we don't want to be completely in the sticks either. I've had some lovely experiences in Devon but it's maybe a bit too tranquil for us. Brighton and Poole have been great because of the mixture of environments, although there are many places we've no experience of at all, which may be perfect for us. |

Love Newquay, the people are great and surroundings are fantastic, only thing I think Newquay is a bit too slow for us. Fantastic for a break but not sure could live there full time, it being so far from all the hustle and bustle. |

Brighton Marina has quite a lot of properties as does Sovereign Harbour in Eastbourne. Eastbourne will be more competitively priced but without Brighton's facilities although it's only a short train ride away. Brighton Marina is situated quite a distance from the city centre i.e. more than walking distance if you had shopping to carry.
What you need is a holiday darn Sarf. |

Geriatric lol, I don't feel far off from that myself haha.
I get what you are saying about Brighton, we were down that way last year as popped down to the spa there. The roads to link up with the rest of the coast didn't seem to be the best.
We'd want to be somewhere with decent job opportunities or even a longer term prospect of opening own business. I've worked in banking,finance,insurance, remarketing, ran various businesses from takeaways to convenience stores so I'm pretty adaptable. To be honest short term I'm happy to stack shelves as long as the environment is pleasant. |

It might be worth bearing in mind that Brighton has a slightly higher unemployment rate that the rest of the South East. |

Wow, thank you to everyone the feedback has been great.
A lot to go on so far, especially the little nuggets about places I've not even heard of.
Next stage I think is to jot down all the place names and continue looking at jobs/accommodation in those areas.
My wife and I are in a strange position that we still love to "party hard" but more so we enjoy quiet evenings in and a more laid back tranquil lifestyle.
If anything else springs to mind please feel free to msg or post on here. It's all very useful. |

Brighton is a vibrant place, so much going on but expensive. Maybe move somewhere quieter and cheaper on south coast leaving Brighton for your day/weekend trips. Once you are by the sea, you will never want to live inland again. I love it. |

Just a quick thank you to all that contributed, our circumstances changed so we've decided not to move for a couple of years.
On the plus side we have a lot of new places on the south coast to discover in the mean time. |
